The Learfield Director's Cup annually ranks entire college athletic departments each school year. Points are awarded based on order of finish in various NCAA championships as well as the final NCAA football polls.

With the College World Series now completed, every NCAA sport for the 2018-19 school year has wrapped up. With that, the final 2018-19 Learfield Director's Cup Standings have been released.

Unsurprisingly, Stanford won its 25th-consecutive overal title. The Cardinal have taken the top spot in every single year except for the first one - 1993-94 - in which it finished second to North Carolina. Stanford scored points in 18 of 19 possible points this spring and won national titles in men's gymnastics and golf as well as women's volleyball, swimming, tennis and water polo.

With 295 schools competing in Division I athletics, Texas A&M came in at No. 15 this school year.

The Aggies scored points in women's track and field (No. 4), men's golf (No. 5), men's track and field (No. 6), women's tennis (No. 9), baseball (No. 17), men's tennis (No. 17), women's golf (No. 49) and softball (No. 49) during the spring semester. In the winter, A&M scored with women's basketball (No. 9), women's indoor track and field (No. 10), men's indoor track and field (No. 11), women's swimming (No. 13) and men's swimming (No. 17). In the fall, the Aggies added points for women's soccer (No. 9), football (No. 16), men's cross country (No. 32) and women's cross country (No. 32).

Texas A&M was ranked No. 29 overall following the fall sports and moved up to No. 20 overall following the winter ones. The spring saw the Aggies move up five more places to No. 15.

In addition to Stanford, the top five was rounded out by Michigan at No. 2, Florida at No. 3, Texas at No. 4 and USC at No. 5.

The SEC had eight Top-25 programs as the conference saw Florida finish No. 3, LSU No. 11, Kentucky No. 14, Texas A&M No. 15, Georgia No. 21, South Carolina No. 22, Arkansas No. 23 and Tennessee No. 25.

Texas A&M's highest-ever finish in the Director's Cup standings was the 2012-13 school year, which saw the Aggies end up No. 5 overall. The school had other top-10 finishes in 2010-11 (No. 8), 2011-12 (No. 9), 2013-14 (No. 10) and 2017-18 (No. 10).

Stanford, Michigan, and others benefit from playing in almost all of the sports. So they score big points in sports that don't have many entries giving it a double bonus.

Sort of:

"Sports Included
Division I: Count 19 sports with the following breakdowns (decreased by 1, 19.1 avg.)
- Four of which must be Baseball and Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball and Women's Volleyball
- The next highest 15 (max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, will be used in the standings"

The fact they play more sports including those with fewer participating schools gives them multiple opportunities to trade in a higher score from one of those sports. But they have an excellent sports program in every sport they compete in.

Nothing but money stops us from imitating their approach.

It isn't included due to not being NCAA sponsored.

I believe the NCAA requires 40 schools to compete to be recognized as a NCAA sport.
