I wish the band would expand its repertoire, especially for songs that fit the dancer performances that normally are done to DJ music. When we are in postseason and can't use the recorded music, our dance team doesn't show their best routines.
I was a bit concerned that we would have to overcome the head official in the sky when I saw the priest on the end of Marquette's bench but I guess we have been living right!!
The dancers aren't likely to dance to pep band music...and I doubt you could find a single high school basketball environment that has much more than just a pep band supporting basketball in the Midwest. I know both my kids in Iowa player for both marching bands and required pep band support.
The repertoire is always limited for a pep band so they can play with confidence and lead the crowd. We probably need more purpose-specific songs/chants for basketball because you just don't have time for War Hymn to rile up your own crowd.
The dancers also do a wide variety of dance styles with lots of urban. Not exactly what a pep band can pull of at Yexas A&M. Marching bands at traditional black colleges do that. I'm not sure about their pep bands though.
The other issue is the FTAB isn't the Pep Band though it's probably easy to confuse the two for "civilians." I won't comment on things like comraderie and practice time but I'd bet it's less than two hours per week.
Did y'all notice on the post-game, Sham was asked about playing in the shadow of Carter. She started to answer, but then Carter jumped in to defend and promote? Thought it was a pretty cool moment. Like seeing the growth & chemistry.
