With the rumors of SpaceX merging with Tesla, it would seem like purchasing SpaceX at (currently) $146 per share would be a no brainer.

I bought Tesla when everyone in Seattle started burning them. Made a nice little chunk of change. I just bought a little bit of SpaceX. I'm sure I'll wish I bought more down the road.

SpaceX @ 20T in a decade isn't really a hard bet.

With how the government is spending money, I'd pay attention if he bet a loaf of bread would be $20T in a decade...the SpaceX bet is meh.

I think you have to put $50k down to get on the list. Like the above poster said, it will not have the ability to fly. I could see the vacuum and jet technology being employed a bit to do the crazy acceleration thing.

The car that will be produced is probably going to be the fastest, best-handling car ever made, but it will not fly. This was a publicity stunt - a very effective and impressive one, but still a stunt.

A future variant may have some sort of VTOL-type technology, but that's probably multiple decades away. Producing the real Roadster car in volume is likely to still be quite a ways away, given Tesla's notorious hyper-optimistic new product launch estimates.

Why does everyone talk about Tesla and SpaceX and the rest of the Musk CEO/owned companies as if he is personally inventing all of that? He's not the first person to think of slapping rockets to a car. His engineers used SpaceX tech to make it happen without the car crashing for a demo. But its not some groundbreaking tech yet.

So you're saying load up on Tesla or SpaceX? lol This thread isn't in the politics thread.

My big concern with investing in Elon Co is that it's really him and the dude doesn't seem very healthy. Something happens to him healthwise, yikes.

I have owned Tesla stock for a long time and bought the SpaceX IPO. Tesla stock is about the same price it was 5 years ago so would have been better off with QQQ but oh well.

In any case, I always thought Tesla/SpaceX would merge and the Musk pay packages give him a greater reward with SpaceX stock in a stronger position before the merger. For that reason between SpaceX and Tesla, I have been heavier SpaceX.

As for long-term, I can't think of a better meme play than SpaceX so I will continue to hold.

His pay packages don't favor a higher SpaceX market cap, but his ownership percentage/voting control does. He has around ~85% of voting rights in SpaceX and ~20% in Tesla. In a merger of equals he ends up with just over 50% of the combined company's voting rights and ~35% of the equity.

His pay package at Tesla awards him with ~1% increase in ownership of the company per tranche achieved. The pay package was structured to have him achieve one operational milestone (e.g. 1 million Robotaxis, 10 million FSD subscriptions, EBITDA targets etc) and one market cap milestone ($2T and every $500B until
$8.5T). If Tesla is acquired by SpaceX he gets the stock tranches based upon the closing value of Tesla whether he hits the operational milestones or not.



He also has a pending tax bill that a proportion of his ownership will go to fund. ~7% of Tesla shares are restricted based upon his 2018 comp package. When Tesla mergers, or Jan 19, 2028 comes, whichever is first, he loses about 40% of those shares to taxes. He will want this merger vote to occur within the next ~12 months to ensure he can vote as many shares as possible.

50-50 split in ownership between the companies in the combined entity is about the highest premium he'd be willing to go, because anything higher would risk him owning <50% of the voting rights.
