Howdy! I wanted to put this out here for two close buddies of mine from my time in the Army who are both looking to transition into civilian careers. Obviously both are actively doing their own research as well but I have found TexAgs to be an invaluable community full of great folks and resources and thought I would go here as well on their behalves.

The first is currently an active-duty Field Artillery Captain and will be separating from the Army in about 10 months. He graduated from West Point with a STEM background and will have about 6 years of active-duty experience once he is out, including time as a platoon leader and battery commander. He is extremely sharp, a strong leader, and has significant experience managing people, equipment, logistics, planning, and operations.

He is primarily looking at opportunities in management, operations, supply chain, logistics, project management, or similar roles. He also has a bit of a background in coding. He has a young family with two toddlers and would ideally like to end up somewhere in the Southeast like Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, etc.

The second is also a former Field Artillery Officer and has been out of the Army since April of this year. He is currently in North Carolina with his young family and is looking for something he can start as soon as possible. He graduated from High Point University with a background in Business/Supply Chain management. He is a strong leader with solid experience in logistics, operations, personnel management, planning, and coordinating people and equipment. Interested in roles in operations, project management, logistics, supply chain, or general management.

He would prefer to stay in the Carolinas/Southeast if possible, but he is open to relocating for the right opportunity.

I served with both of these guys and can personally vouch for their character, work ethic, and leadership ability. If anyone here knows of companies looking for strong leaders with their type experience, I'd really appreciate any leads or introductions.

Also, if there are any resources that yall know of that they should be looking into, that would be awesome as well.

Thanks TexAgs!

Accenture has a large defense supply chain consulting practice that used to hire a ton of this type of guy. Could be a decent place to launch depending on their appetite for a hybrid role with long hours.

All the Big 4 do a ton of this work.

Location is the biggest issue for them for me right now. If they were in DFW I could probably get them in front of a hiring manager tomorrow with how fast we're growing here.

BankofAmerica.com has a Careers link at the bottom of the page. The have a ton of jobs that have nothing to do with sitting in a bank branch. It's not easy finding a job, period, but for some reason it's harder as ex-military.

I will mention both of those to them. You never know, they may be open to relocation given the right opportunity for sure. Thank yall for your insights.

I've found the opposite to be true.

There are so many dedicated recruiting pipelines for veterans. And services to connect you to people who will tailor your resume to explain the value of activities the general public might not understand. And other similar free services and programs.

When I was at Deloitte back in the day, we had full dedicated recruiting groups for veterans. They did nothing else.

If they're just firing off applications, that's a low hit rate for everyone. The geographic limitation can also be tough depending on field. The West Pointer should lean on that network as well. There's a ton of west pointers in all levels of organizations that would be happy to have coffee and discuss a role.

Can also consider an MBA if they're open to it. Typically free, and veterans get preferred admission at many top schools.

Would you mind shooting me an email. I think my West Point buddy might be interested in reaching out if you would be willing to discuss with him. Thank you.
