Got a letter in the mail with an offer to buy my shares of a certain stock, the offer price is half the current NYSE price.

No one in their right mind would take this lowball BS, so I assume they are hoping to get some elderly people to fall for it.

Be nice to know who owns this turd company and call them out.

Free market at work. I don't have a problem with it. I get letters in the mail nearly weekly offering to buy our ranch for fractions of market value. They wouldn't send these unless someone occasionally went for it. Either way, it's legal, and if someone sells, that's not really your problem, right?

It's a numbers game. Send 500 or 1000 letters or whatever and you only need one hit to make it work. Realtors used to send post cards as an ongoing marketing plan. They may still do.

They still do. My mailbox's purpose in life is to funnel realtor post cards, Allstate envelopes and VA mortgage refi offers into my trashcan.

Now I get 'personal' letters", that are really mass produced. Old fashioned letters addressed to me asking if I want a cash offer to sell. "No hassle, no realtor commissions, no closing costs" offers. And yes they go straight to the recycle bin.

Back before the phone book finally died they would leave it on top of our mailbox when they delivered it. I taught our Great Dane to stand up, take it off the mailbox, carry it to the trashcan then drop it in after I opened the lid for him.

Legal is one thing, ethical is another, right?

I didn't say, "Illegal company", I said, "scummy company".

if they trick someone who is feeble or with dementia etc...that's all of our problems.
