Sounds like you're experiencing 100% inflation.

Hey...if you got the money for new tech, might as well buy it. If you're okay using the old stuff, and it still works great for your purpose, continue to use it.

The problem I see is the time honored tradition of budget cuts when the bottom line needs some breathing room. IT budgets are one of the first line items on the chopping block because that sheet is expensive. The ROI is not immediately realized until their is a breach in networks that greatly interrupts productivity.

The world stops when people can't use their PC, make VOIP calls, Teams/Zoom meetings, get to necessary applications, etc. It will be imperative for budget stakeholders to be astutely aware of just how fast and broad the threat vectors can increase with older equipment; especially end-of-life/end-of-support infrastructure that can't be hardened anymore with hardware/firmware updates.

Last, AI is straddling a very important set of moral and ethical use questions today. Overall, is AI a societal good or evil? At some point, we're going to have to make some hard decisions about this subject. In my view, the probability that society will be given any choice on the matter is pretty low but, we will still pay for it in one form or another.

Five years ago, maybe. Now, they tend to be fairly competitive in certain areas, relatively speaking. Their base level models for products even more so. In fact, their MBAs, NEOs, and MacMinis are downright fantastic deals and edge out their main competitors in many aspects. They have finally opened up options at all price points. They are no longer premier status symbols only.

Saying this as someone very critical of Apple btw, even as a user myself.

Dad?

I thought I put some limits on your AOL account. Did you get your grandson to get you out of internet jail?

Ive used Samsung for about a dozen years while the wife and daughters use IPhone. Same goes for Microsoft laptops vs Macs and tablets. Apple has been much more expensive.

And the kids give a crap about the latest and greatest updates because its a social thing.

Its probably been a few years so maybe its gotten better. But for a long time it was absolutely way over priced

And it makes sense for a generation obsessed with acting rich. Maybe it all started with Apple. Oh...I see you got an android...lol poors

I thought about going with the 1970s pet rock. The value of a social fad seems to have escalated in the 2000s with ipods and Iphones

I always enjoyed the fanboy Apple v Android wars although that seems to have died off in the past couple of years. Phones are tools; nothing more.

Used multiple different Android brand phones, even a Microsoft Nokia at one point (which I loved), but then been on Apple for several years now. Only switched to Apple because at the time Android was a buggy mess of a phone OS. I was constantly having to futz with it to get it to work. Likely a function of it being more open source than Apple, but it was annoying.

Might be much more stable these days. No idea. I will say my iPad Pro makes me insane at times. It's mostly a POS that is only good for TA and surfing. I refuse to do anything of significance on it because it's unreliable.

And I refuse to abandon my PC in favor of Mac. My wife has a MacBook Air Pro(?). Hate it on the occasion I have to futz with it. It's a nonsensical machine. And that apple mouse is the worst piece of hardware ever dreamed up.

The 1 button mouse is more of an advertising slogan than a functional improvement

I used an IPhone and their audio books and their music store back before we had these monthly subscription music buffets

I quit Apple when I discovered i could not play the music and audio books outside of apple hardware. They offered a monthly subscription that gave the ability to delete and download each song, one by one, allowing it to be used on non apple hardware

I saved what I could and left
Apple.

I never had any issues with an android other than the recent news they were removing the OneDrive to backup folders for pictures. But Google AI gave me the answer to save my gallery folders without much research and now my folders are backed up in Google Photos with the same folder nomenclature

It's absolutely not a functional improvement. It's a POS. I'll note that the Gen 1 Apple TV remote tried to avoid analog buttons and it was roundly trashed in the market. Their Gen 2 remote resolved this by adding actual analog buttons. Surprised they haven't corrected their mouse as well. And I love my Apple TV. It's the best streaming platform out there.

Thus, my opinion and usage of Apple products varies widely depending on the product.

And, yes, if I ever leave Apple I guess I'll have to start over with a music because I use the Apple Music sub. At least for the music I've downloaded since burning my physical music to PC a decade ago. I'll still have the latter but my collection will be frozen in digital amber at the time that I burned it all, if you will.

I do have Apple TV and agree they have good content. I usually cancel it and Netflix when college football starts to help offset the cost of YTTV which i really only use for CFB and Christmas movies

On the topic of Apple's lawsuit against OpenAI and thinking about the old Android vs Apple battles, this AI lawsuit is now the new Android vs Apple battle. But now it's AI and not phones.

Physical form factor of phones have reached their conclusion / end state which is the main reason why those fights died.

Will be interesting how the new AI battle shakes out since Apple is behind all of their rivals. This lawsuit is desperation by them because of that fact.

A lot of people have slowly started to realize that the Apple walled-garden and proprietary everything has come at a cost to the consumer.

When they were innovating, people overlooked it.

This is a PR masterpiece.

Exclusive interview with the publication read the most by Wall Street to give them a heads up.
Stock takes a temporary hit.
New iPhones released in the Fall with increased prices.
Another temporary hit because people will freak out online for a couple days before moving on to the next "crisis".
Like somebody else mentioned in the thread, millions will upgrade because of monthly plans.
Apple blows out revenue expectations first quarter after iphones are released.
Apple keeps the higher prices for a long time because customers don't care.

Apple wins yet again.

Well, they didn't win soon enough to save my $300 AAPL call options that expire today.

From the show Get Smart - "Missed it by THAT much".

2 weeks...

I didn't buy a bunch of shares after making my prediction

I'm really kicking myself haha!

I was right but my timeline was waaaaay off...

Its biggest complaint is the charging port on the bottom. And most modern mouses above low tier can scroll left and right too.

Didn't know that about the scrolling, haven't bought a mouse in a long time. Agree about the charge port on the bottom, I hate having to use the touchpad if I forget to charge the mouse. Otherwise I have no complaints.

It needs buttons where the entire mouse is not one big button. It's not a touch screen; it's a tool that should actually make use of the appendages we've evolved.

This everything must be a touch screen is why their Gen 1 AppleTV remote failed and they had to add buttons to it. Worst design ever.
