If so I assume 25bps, or does he give a middle finger to Trump and do nothing?

The Fed has talked themselves into a corner and almost have to cut 25bps today. I expect a pause through the end of the year after that.

I'm pretty sure the bond market is asking for tightening monetary policy.

About a 4% chance of no rate cut, so that would be a big shock.

Powel talks like everything is gravy. Got to cut rate to service debt, but the risk is blow off top in markets and more inflation. But inflating away the debt is really only option since gov won't cut spending.

I could see him setting up today with a .25, but also plant a seed for no rate cut in Dec.

It will be interesting to see what the Fed does going forward with Trump saying he should have a/the final say on interest rates. Will they lower rates to appease Trump and try to avoid losing all independence or do they stop lowering rates and risk the wrath of Trump?

I agree there will be some level of drama at some point between Trump and Powell.

Biden never addressed the spending problem. Trump likely won't materially cut total spending. If inflation rears it's head again, Powell will hike rates at stock market ATHs.

Expected to go neutral around 4% shortly after Trump takes office.
