Anyone invest in it? Bill Gates' Terra Power is privately held. BXWT already builds reactors for the US Navy.

It appears Tech companies will require more energy and SMR is the answer?

Lots of government in the way and I haven't heard any of the big candidates really weigh in on this. With nobody making it a priority, I don't expect anything to really change. But, then again, maybe that is the only way to get things done nowadays. Keep quiet and slip it through.

We have 2 major Nuclear companies here in Central Virginia, Framatome (French) and BWXT. Framatome announced they're hiring 500 engineers and started on expansion here.

Bill Gates invested over a Billion in SMR - TerraPower.

I've talked to some at BWXT and their SMR research is robust.

There has been much a buzz with nuclear, with Microsoft investing in the re-start of Three Mile island, Amazon just put order for 3 SMR's, Nvidia CEO came out and says nuclear only way to go, new SMR being tested at Abilene Christian University, Kairos energy is testing SMR in NM and TN.. so yes lots of buzz, I am hoping the regulators will push these things forward. More to come!!! And they need Uranium!! I'm bullish on it.

No, you'll see dedicated generation for data centers.

I put some money in NuScale Power (SMR) in May and it has done well.
Wish I had put more in....

I passed on an equity opportunity in Last Energy last September. I think it's going to be 10ish years before the tech is economic. I also don't know who the winners and losers will be, but 10 years is longer than I like to wait to see a return.

One of Gates projects is located in southwest Wyoming north of I-80.

$4 billion project. They hope to standardize and replicate the design.

Supposed to go online in 2030 which seems like a long time.

I'm all for nuclear, but is there a reason other than fossil fuels bad that someone can't put a few of these data centers in West Texas and use basically free natural gas?

Been watching OKLO - it has been ripping on all of this news, up almost 4X since early September.

Complete lack of fiber optic infrastructure primarily combined with significant distance from any and all end users resulting in significantly higher latency

I speculate that one of the major reasons our government is lackadaisical about nuclear is that we can't truly monetize it like petroleum (petrodollar). And this is probably why French (they hate us) are so gung ho about nuclear.

That makes total sense. Thanks for providing a well reasoned response and ruining my preferred narrative.

Still remember a couple investments 20 or so years ago into companies making gasoline and diesel out of wood chips, trash, cane, etc. A friend was an engineer at several different companies in this field.
They were building plants and making the products, but it cost way more to make than what they sold the products for.

Eventually the grant money and investor money, including mine, dried up. I guess some of those companies are still trying.

So I'll ask if this new industry in the op will ever be profitable?

Yeah, Bloom Energy is a crazy story. Knew KR Sridhar (CEO and Founder) very well in our younger days but haven't talked to him in a while. How he has managed to build and sustain a company like that for so long with continuous VC influx and other funding, all the while, never turning a single year of profits is amazing. He was always a slick talker but he must have perfected those skills even more!
