1099 Delays?

I had read somewhere that due to some last-minute IRS changes, some 1099s may be delayed.

I've received a 1099-DIV from Transamerica for my mutual fund account every year since I opened it in the late 90s....even when there were no reportable dividends to declare.

This year...nothing.

I was going to wait until mid-Feb to call them just in case they were caught up in the delays but I was wondering if anyone else was waiting for one.

We pay as little tax as possible out of paychecks and track everything in a spreadsheet to pay quarterly estimated taxes. Right now, TT says I need to write a $48 check which is the closest I've ever been to $0. Trying to keep it that way.

I have received some 1099-Rs, but Schwab is telling me for other 1099s they're estimating they'll be ready by 2/16. Not sure why the delay, doesn't seem it's been this way in year's past but I could be misremembering.

I don't have the whole story, and this is for standard 1099s, but I know of a few employers that found out they had to request new credentials with the IRS in order to report the 1099 info to them and there was something like a 45 day waiting period to get them. Compounding the matter was the credential had to be tied to a person and if that person already had their own personal account with the IRS, it would be kicked out because you can't have 2 accounts tied to the same SSN.

I may not have the exact details right, but I know this was causing small school districts in TX to scramble in December.

Some years ago, the deadline for 1099 filing by payers to recipients was changed from January 31 to February 15 for certain forms. One of those is Form 1099-B. But it also applies to consolidated reporting statements such as you get from a broker and that contains 1099-B, 1099-DIV, and 1099-INT information all in one statement.

This is referring to the new requirement to EFile if you report more than 10 form 1099s. The Efile process with the IRS (IRIS System) for these is a hot mess and many did not realize they had to sign up for the credentials until it was too late.

but the IRS did not change the 1/31 deadlines for 1099NEC, so doubt they do it for any of the other 1099 forms with 2/15 deadlines.
