One more idea of moving to small town.

You are remote. You need internet. Do you have it where you're moving to?

Most places might have something, but is it what you need? Can everyone sit on the internet and you do work?

We are currently in the process of moving from Houston to Washington County. We will be ~1 hour from downtown Houston (without traffic). I am primarily WFH, but do go into the office a couple days per month. My wife will commute 1-2 days per week.

The availability of flex schedules going forward is a concern, but there are potential employment options outside of downtown that could make it easier if WFH goes away.

We are not moving for financial reasons as we are building and therefore will be spending more than what we currently spend on mortgage. We are busting at the seams at our current house and would need to move soon anyways. To move within a good school district in Houston for the space we need (want), we'd be spending about the same.

We view the community/lifestyle aspect as a trade off.

This is becoming less and less of a problem with starlink and with government expansion of internet infrastructure in rural areas.

Yes, fortunately she is going to be able to move her hours around as needed.

There's a difference in having 15Mb/s internet and 250+Mb/s internet.

Both are technically high speeds. One allows your family to be on while you work and the other to yell at people before you make a teams call.

I have been remote in a rural small town area since 2020 and my speeds have been no more than 50 mbps when I test them. Wife and son are home all day doing whatever school related stuff. Speed has never been an issue. Just a data point.

And I think OP is considering Wichita Falls, which I am sure has better options than I do.

Ya we have DSL at 15mbps. It was an issue until I hardwired my work station, and our tvs/rokus. No issues at all since.
