well Caliber Collision is going to break it straight off in your insurance company.
You're screwed either way.
If there is anyway to take it somewhere else, maybe a good independent place, do it. If you can pay out of pocket I'd do that but you don't want them to find hidden damage after they already quoted you $6k
Which is called a "supplemental claim" which is a very common way to get as much as possible out of an insurance company.

Years ago my daughter rear ended her friend's car, turns out the friend was brake checking everyone as a joke. Later that afternoon she got in another wreck, then got really pissed when I didn't give her car #3 to go out that night. Kids are dumber then heck sometimes.

Do the math on deductible vs possible incremental insurance rate. Assume his monthly portion of the premium doubles (or triples!) and add deductible. In other words, is that out of pocket cash better invested elsewhere.
How much does it usually go up?
Not sure but I'd expect it can double. Not that I have any experience with that. I've seen them do that to me with no accidents, forcing me to change carriers. I'd ask Liere.
19 years ago I took the front end off a pretty new camaro. Did around 10k in damage to it. My insurance went up about $100 a month for 36 months after the claim payout.

The way some people on texags act, they probably made their newborns hunt around the hospital for the first tit to nurse on. "If the kid wants it bad enough, they will figure it out."
Sorry you're going thru this but glad he is ok. My opinion is to let your insurance handle this due to the unknowns of 1) further damage upon open up, and 2) diminished value claim that may be made by the other party.
If it was a few hundred bucks, I'd pay out of pocket but
I think you have too much unknown liability.
Obviously, how you handle the payment of increased premium is your decision as the parent.

A few years ago a similar think happened with my daughter and her friend's car in Austin. Fairly minor damage to her friend's front end and hood. Caliber and another place wanted $3000+. I found a small, well-rated shop. The guy did an excellent job and it cost me half that. I paid cash.

Does the car have backup camera? I got rear-ended and fixing/calibrating the cameras was as much as the actual body repair.
An at-fault accident stays on your driving record for 5-7 years depending on the insurance company you have. One poster said add $100 month in premium and that would probably work. However, the way insurance rates are going right now, in my opinion you're premium won't ever drop after they've got you at the increased rate.
My threshold is $3,500 to $5,000.
Also, if your threshold is more than $2,000 then raise your deductibles to $2,000 if you can.

My ins went up like $150/mo, so 2 years break even give or take.
Don't know where you are, but check out Belden. My daughter went there couple of weeks ago & was very pleased. Was concerned she was going to need a new alternator, turns out it was just a bad battery post.AgShaun00 said:

I had to file on insurance. My renewal is in May so we will see. It is sad that the insurance quote from same place was half what was quoted to me for cash. i would have paid out of pocket for it.
