I know no one really knows the answer to this question, but the S&P 500 is up 14% YTD and NASDAQ is up 30% YTD.

And this has been a really good month so far.

I have a gut feeling it's time to move some more $ in cash. This has been a good run.

Some of the biggest % runs in the stock market have been in a bear run.

What's your horizon? Why sell if you plan to hold for longer than 5 years? Unless you think stock prices today are marginally higher than where they will be in the 20+ years from now, I don't think it makes sense.

Dollar cost averaging is a very reputable strategy and I personally am along for the ride. There's nothing wrong with holding some cash but I've watched me go from red to green to red to green to red to now green. It's all part of the long term plans.

I guess I should have said it may be time to turn some equity into cash for the short term.

I'm a believer in the market long term.

so really what you're asking is if it's a good idea to time the market

I've timed the market with a lot of success.

I'm semi retired with time to pay attention to the market and usually have a very good feel about the ebbs and flows.

Unless something totally unexpected happens, the market will be down next week.

I time it. It's called the Model Yugo and this board knows all about it.

The S&P might be up YTD, but its still down around 8% from its all time high in Dec-2021. I would keep buying.

So I suppose the market not being down would be considered something unexpected..

The market ebbs and flows. At least in normal times. we've been on a nice run of flow.

I think we're coming due for an ebb. Actually likely Thursday or Friday of this week. Investors have been on a buying frenzy lately.

If it doesn't go down, it could stay flat. And if it doesn't stay flat, it could go down. And if it doesn't go up, it could go down…

I really hope this is a joke post…

since it's been going up it's likely going to go down, unless this is a time where it keeps going up, in which case it will go up until the next time it goes down

I have been short crude, and will be short Tesla soon. I have some VIX calls and may be willing to buy month out puts after the fed tomorrow.

I always get the suspicion txaggieacct is a Barnes sock. Has made millions in the stock market, semi-retired, bought his kids home, always asking for buys and other market questions, but still wants to act like he knows more than everyone.

The title of the thread is "Is it time to sell?"…with a question mark…..

Unless things have changed in the last few decades since I left Mrs Martin's first grade class I'm pretty sure that's a question
