On this topic, is the button down collar fallen out of style? What's the hip style of collar?

I think it's fine for casual wear, but I would never wear it in an office or professional setting.

Collar wise, I think some depends on your body shape/type and intended wear. I like a semi spread collar, but usually opt for traditional if I am going to be wearing a tie.

BB are great but a little puffy. And I'd switch if you haven't already to and Ainsley collar.

It depends on the rest of your wardrobe. In our office it's jeans every day. Sport shirts with button down-collars are fine. That said, most of my shirts are CT semi-spread collars.

Daniel Cremieux does pretty good for me when I can't get a Bobby shirt.

If you can spoof your location, buy Charles Tyrwhitt shirts from their UK site, even with the exchange rate you'll usually save $30-40 on their 4-shirt combo. The shirts are sent from the exact same warehouse in the UK and they don't care that you ship them to America.

I forgot how great these shirts are. Poplin material is light and smooth.

Shirts fit great even with my fatassery the last couple years. They've cheapened out on the brass stays... the old ones were very sturdy... these new ones are basically throw aways.

Guess I need to consider a combo pack for whenever a T-shirt or polo doesn't do the trick.

Turns out British 'slim fit' shirts are actually for slim people, unlike American ones.

Also one of the shirts (twill, white with blue check) is a bit see-through. I usually wear my BB shirts without an undershirt but wouldn't get away with that with this one.

This is why I buy CT. American slim fit shirts are baggy on me.

Be careful with how you care for these. Pretty sure you can't tumble dry them. I had the stitching come out of the placket on one of mine because I dried it. They say tumble dry low if desired but when I brought it up at the store they said hang dry only.

only issue I have with Mizzen and Main is they're like a dress shirt... I would never pair them with real wool or sharkskin slacks. Chinos, or "sports dress pants", jeans, sure.

I know a lot of people rock the Peter Millar golf pants as dress pants but its still a very casual look. Those pair with Mizzen and Main well.

Ordered three slim fit Charles Tyrwhitt shirts and they just came in and they're a little baggy across the chest. I guess I could hit the gym, but was thinking of just getting them tailored slightly. Any good tailor recommendations in The Woodlands or Houston area? Or should I just return them and try a different brand. These were my first of this brand after reading the recommendations on here.

T.M. Lewin also makes a nice shirt. Don't know about tall or other sizes, but their fitted is similar to CT extra slim.

Don't know the best forum to ask this, so figured I would bolt on to this thread.

For context:


I HATE shirts that have a second button that is too high. However, I don't really find consistency in button placement. I usually wear button down dress shirts without a tie, and only the top button unbuttoned.

Any recommendations on brands or styles of shirts which have lower placed second buttons?
Proper Cloth is the only one I have found which is prescriptive on second button placement.
