Well they're better than cash. If you need to be liquid it's probably your best bet right now. If your horizon is a year or longer, I-Bond rates are still very good.

I think so. Goldman Sachs has had the best MM and CD rates I've seen recently; however, they seem to have shifted down somewhat significantly in the last 45 days. Still can't beat that MM rate though.

45 days ago... MM - 3.79%; 3 month - 3.62%; 6 month - 4.42%; 12 month - 4.6%
Today.....MM - 4.28%; 3 month - 2.67%; 6 month - 3.75%; 12 month - 4.33%

When has "sit back and watch" ever worked for the average investor?

Try short term Treasury Bills (8, 13, 17, 26 week bills all available) are a great place. You can open a Treasury Direct account and link to your bank account. Do it all online.

When you want your cash portion of portfolio to earn more than the usual nothing while protecting principal. I'm assuming that's what OP is doing here.

Currently getting 3.75% in a SoFi savings account. Fully liquid, no risk at all.

Fully liquid as there is no minimum length you have to keep it in there?
