I have been tasked with integrating P&C insurance business into an umbrella of a wealth management company. We are looking to be an independent insurance provider. I have no prior insurance experience as a captive agent or anything (I'm coming from another industry).

We are considering using Smart Choice or Horizon Agency Systems to help with getting appointed.

We are leaning with going with Horizons right now becuase they do not have any type of severance issues (Smart Choice has a 2 year non-compete if you try to leave them).

Any input at all would be appreciated.

This is a terrible time to be trying to get into the p&c business, in my opinion. Carrier losses are up bigly, rates are skyrocketing and underwriting is tightening up big time. You might have a very hard time getting carrier access despite what any aggregator (cluster group) says to you in order to get you to join.
