Just received a 56% increase in premium from Geico. I called and they said its due to price of auto parts, etc.

Anybody have similar experience?

Insane increases here too. If you find some success with reasonable rates, let us know.

Most insurance carriers are simply not wanting to take on new business. Sounds crazy on the surface but in 2021 insurance companies set a record in claims, add the used car market and yea, maybe it doesn't sound too crazy.

With that said, I'd be happy to take a look for anyone looking to shop.

The replacement cost of your car probably increased 56% too.

I have a friend had the same thing happen-- perfect driving record. no claims. just this week got renewal notice for 50% rate increase year over year.

I think all the companies adjusted their policies at the new fiscal year Oct 1 and those are going to roll out to all of us when we renew. Fortunately mine doesn't come for renewal until June '23. I drive a '99 and my wife drives an '09. we were paying like $70 a month for both of us until my oldest turned 16 this year. Now it's $200 a month (could be worse) but I'm pre-preparing to pay over $300 in June when it renews. This doesn't include my twins who turn 14 this month and my 12 year old youngest.

So I'm guessing in about three years that will be about $1k a month.

I don't think I have ever seen an increase in my rates in the 16 years I have used USAA.

For those with Costco memberships, recommend getting an auto/home quote through their partner
Connect Insurance(American Family). I shop quotes every time for renewal and have been always cheaper for last 3 years I have had them when combining auto/home premiums.

Forgot to add that I live in Utah so YMMV depending on where you live, obviously TX will be higher.

It's everywhere. We got hit with same thing. Makes sense. Replacement value is crazy. The numbers had to move

My broker found me a better deal after progressive went up 2x.
Ended up 1.3x
I pay 5800 a year for 4 nice cars and 2 drivers under 25

I'm at 4134 for two nice cars. One car just liability. And a 10k boat. My wife is under 25 so maybe that will go down soon.

Holy ***** Another reminder to never have kids. I cannot complain about my ~$350 every six months that I'm sure will go up when I get the new bill here in November

We WFH most of the time. I will consider carrying only liability if my rates go up crazy.

If you've been with them more than 2 years, it can be rewritten into a "new tier" and the rate will go back down.

I won't go so far as to say I "guarantee" it, but we can beat that - unless your driving record is atrocious.

The legal exposure the insurance carriers are facing has gone through the roof in this state as well. There are now a plethora of personal injury lawyers bringing absolutely absurd cases against these companies. You see them advertise everyday; they have client/case representatives, doctors and other experts on ready call. All of these "services" get marked up to and passed on to ultimate injury claim. These are will oiled machines with the purpose of defrauding using the system. I have a friend involved in what is essentially a $3,000 fender bender being claimed for well over $800k. Sad part is the "client" will only ever see a tiny fraction of this after paying for expert services (marked up of course), legal fees, etc.

I work for a carrier and can tell you auto liability is the biggest concern for all commercial insurance companies. A majority of all liability claims now have legal representation. The costs to settle/pay these claims are skyrocketing and will continue up until something changes. Same thing happened with Texas workers comp in the early 2000's…

Our insurance went from $1700 to $3500. Had an agent shop the market and that is still the best they can do.

For businesses you're covering it's even worse. We are always at risk of these bull**** nuclear verdicts, even for tiny accidents where an ambulance chaser gets involved.

I'm not sure if it's been factored in yet, but little over a year ago, the Texas Supreme Court for the first time greenlit the recovery of attorney's fees in all 1st party UIM claims in Allstate Ins, Co. v. Irwin.

For decades, the general rule was that a plaintiff had to exhaust the liable 3rd party's insurance through settlement or judgment and then give the UIM carrier 30 days to make a settlement decision before there could be grounds for recovering attorney's fees. And 3rd party negligence claims do not entitle plaintiffs to attorney fees.

Now, you're seeing personal injury attorneys (especially in the Valley) naming the UIM carrier from the get go as a defendant even though there's $1-5MM commercial auto coverage for a fender bender.

Texas is again in serious need of tort reform (I say this as a statement against my own financial interest).

We got lazy and stayed with Liberty Mutual too long, but we left them 4 years ago after years of double-digit increases. No tickets or accidents, 4 cars, 2 drivers. We went with AAA and saved over 2,000 a year. We bundled with home, boat and PCAT and rates have been steady all 4 years.

Searching for new insurance and trying to compare apples to apples is a PIA, but I'd give AAA a try. My agent is in San Antonio (Daniel at 726 444-3474) but you may have a local office closer to visit.

We haven't had to make a claim, so I can't speak to their service on that end (and I hope I didn't just jinx myself....)

Thanks for the reminder to check. Going up 4.6% with USAA. Daughter turns 21 in December so that might help. Each car seems to have gone up a similar percent. Sounds like we're doing good this time around.

Ran an independent agency about a year ago and would rather do everything online myself. We would have people get quotes online directly on insurance company's websites and when we would quote it with exact same info they put in it would come back cheaper every time. Thinking they charge more because they would be the ones directly dealing with servicing the policy. Call an independent that's gonna be straight up and not give you any sales bs, let them shop it and it will be cheaper and you can adjust your policy/make changes on the app any time you want.
