Howdy! A bunch of Aggies got together, did Aggie things, and now TAMU is officially a coin on Polkadot!

What is TAMU, you ask? Glad you asked, thanks for that, really.

It's the Tradable Access Monetary Unit, of course. I don't know why you would think it's anything else.

Anyways, here's the link: t.me/joinchat/XIGKNO7fn0k4OTNh

This will grow to more exclusive access, so join us in the chat and let's do it!

Oh wow you just went ahead and did it.

Yeah we're trying to make our very own crypto coin. It'll be awesome maybe.

We have launched the coin, and it's now live on polkaswap!

We're one of two "TAMU" coins, as we had a test run. The correct address is 0x00dca673e1f57dfffbb301fb6d2b5a37779a878dc21367b20161ca1462964a47

We're sitting around $0.0007 per coin. We have some future plans for coin ownership and airdrops so feel free to drop into the telegram if you're interested.

I'm in... I plan on providing some pinned posts on the basics of crypto, blockchain and what drives the value and then move into trading low cap alt coins, staking, providing liquidity etc.

The group of guys behind this have a pretty diverse experience in both business and trading. We have been working as a group for a while now, sharing ideas and thoughts on the market and decided it would be fun to include more Ags in this.

Hope you find value in the discussion. We are also open to suggestion on the direction of the TAMU coin.

I tried to get in for a small amount but the polkaswap platform seems like a huge hassle. Beyond the current issues, the fact that it's an ETH token makes gas fees really annoying if you're not looking to invest a large amount. Also the fact that it requires a browser plugin and isn't integrated into any other wallets is kind-of a turnoff.

Wish you guys had used a more convenient DEX but can't pretend to know all the logistics that went into your decision.

I'll check it out once their update goes live on sunday and see if I can't figure out how to get some then.

If an actual tamu community coin is the goal, airdropping all existing ags living/dead would be an interesting method of adoption. Not sure how "proof of Aggie" would work but could turn out to be a better method than the aggie ring.

Every graduating senior gets airdropped their TAMUcoin, could be a method to get around NCAA payforplay rules.

Lots of fun things to try out.

Definitely a risky play to airdrop coins to current students but that's actually a fun idea. Give everyone 12 of em

Polkadot is a mess right now, really the only way to buy anything is if you were lucky enough to get a transfer through last week before the bridge exploded. We really like the concept though, and XOR has been on our radar for a while as a good value coin.

As time goes on we'd be interested in different chains but still have to work out the smart contracts for all that. I'm still wrapping my head around burning coins on one chain to send to another versus mirroring versus any other approaches.

Concept is just to destroy one for another, eliminating duplications.

Similar to forking, but different as the original fork ceases to exist.

At least that's how I imagine it working I could be wrong.

Whats risky about airdropping current students?

I've always wanted tamu to be the first university rewarding students/former students for contributions to the university reputation via a unique crypto. Something like bitclout.

We may have jumped the gun a bit by announcing the coin before Polkaswap got their bridge fixed but you can still join the telegram group and get in early once it is fixed.

The buggest risk of giving current students money is NCAA or other situations. Don't want to bark up any trees that might be an issue and I'm sure athletes are just one of many possible hazards. The idea of a college crypto ecosystem is super cool though... Just a lot to flesh out. Hence the discussion thread, telegram room, etc.

Currently, it's admittedly very speculative. Mostly Aggies who are crypto nerds wanted to be able to create a coin that takes some cues from our other biggest common interest.

Still unveiling pieces of this, but the overarching theme is exclusive access.

Initially, think of it as a cheap tuition to advanced crypto trading strategies, offerings, ideas, insight. For example, the group behind this collectively probably is approaching $1M in alt coins, so there's a huge amount of insight as to swing patterns for trading and roadmaps for certain projects that could have 10-100x potential.

In the future, we hope to expand the "exclusive" access offerings, but intend fully on our community to help drive the discussion on what you want. Could we see it as a pure currency with a smidge more trust than rando coins because a good percentage of holders will be Ags? Sure.

The point is, for being early on the concept you get a high reward potential for spending less than we did on a night at the Chicken.

I still don't understand. You are only wanting Aggies to purchase? So you want Aggies to generate the demand for your coin and thus the "value" of your holding? Are you intending to exploit the loyalty of Aggies by selling out to them at an inflated price from the artificial demand?

So this is a coin whose sole purpose is to act as a currency users must use and pay to gain access to your telegram channel? That's how I read your explanation for the use case.

I don't understand the TAMU or Aggie affiliation. I'm reading this as anyone can buy a TAMU coin to get access to a few aggies giving crypto trading advice in a telegram channel.

Replying to both comments given the similar concerns, which I fully appreciate. I'll say from the beginning, we structured this in a way to protect everyone who jumps on board.

Through this crypto channel I have been introduced to five projects. Four of those have made money, and the total return on that portion of my portfolio is roughly 2.5X...in a few months. That's worth something. We've also had several join who knew nothing about crypto or nothing beyond BTC, ETH and Doge and were taught. That's also worth something. There are countless stock tip newsletters or subscription based advice sites, this is a similar concept without ongoing costs tailored to the crypto space.

My belief is simple: if someone has something of value, there's nothing wrong with seeking to profit from sharing that value. And we're talking about $7.20 roughly to get into the premium group at this stage (not the link posted, that one is free), so it's not exactly like someone who takes a flier on it in it's infancy is risking much. Want to go bigger? Go for it. We had an idea so we're giving it a whirl.

Do we only want Aggies to purchase? No, but if we can find a cool way to give Aggies who like crypto a coin to bond over why not? Also, at this stage the founders have to purchase coins just like everyone else if they want to trade them, and they are not automatically in any of the recurring returns programs currently deployed or in planning stages.

And just so we're clear, TAMU stands for Tradable Access Monetary Unit

No issue with the concept if people will pay for it. The TAMU piece on an Aggie forum is what makes it feel click baity.

Well to be honest I don't think we'd bother posting on Texags if there wasn't some kind of tie in. Otherwise it's just shilling some random coin, and then nobody has any reason to care. And I gotta say if you're going to pick a theme, this one's fun. I can't wait to finish stuff like photoshopping thumbs-up on the moon or putting Sully in a space suit. I just need to figure out how to Doge-ify Rev.

I can respect that. Reality is we're all a bit obsessed with A&M, TexAgs is where several of us got connected directly or indirectly, so seemed pretty fitting. Hope you check it out!

You probably want to add a link or a youtube video with specific instructions on how to setup a Polkaswap account, fund the account and then buy/exchange to the new TAMU coin. I have quite a bit of Polkadot and Cardano that I might consider reallocating a portion to TAMU coin, but I'd need to understand what wallet I can hold TAMU in and how to complete the exchange.

Played around with it a bit tonight, but it wasn't very intuitive and DOT and ADA are both making good money, so it's gonna need to be pretty simple or most won't bother.

Right now the biggest hurdle is that the polkaswap exchange bridge is still working out their stress test bugs. We got excited to jump into it but for the last few days it's hard to get any coins in. Once things are operational there it'll make more sense to list out the step-by-step.

Quick update: the HASHI bridge is starting to clear the backlog, meaning ETH tokens are getting into the Polkaswap blockchain again. So hopefully this means we can turn real money into fake internet money consistently.

We'll keep an eye on it while we develop guides to simplify the process.
