I am always interested to hear from people how they stand out at work. What is the thing that you day at your job that makes you stand out?

I am people person. Damnit

I work in a technical field and I am certainly not the most technically skilled but I am organized and like people and that helped me tremendously.

Under promise and over deliver - do it in a timely manner and before the deadline.

Respond to emails, stay organized (use outlook tasks like crazy), and ALWAYS, ALWAYS make time for everyone at all levels of the organization. You cannot be too important for anyone - be a sponge and don't gossip.

I took over an account last fall where we had gone from getting 90% of their business for 30 years to 50%. First day I met them I asked "what do I have to do to not get kicked off your account like the last guy" and the response was "this, you're here, you've answered our emails and calls."

The bar is not always as high as you think. Do what you say you'll do and don't be afraid to say "I don't know but I'll find out."

i'll screw up payroll every now and then... they love that!

I'll add respecting everyone's time, being on time, only holding meetings with defined agendas, sticking to those agendas and then taking good notes or arranging for someone to take great notes

I like making people laugh to help with the stress, but HR isn't too keen on my humor.

Have a sense of ownership.

Treat everyone well. Even if they might not deserve it.

Do people favors when you can, and call them in when you need them.

I wear almost 2.5 times more pieces of flair than what is required.

While what you say is not without value, take with a grain of salt too. When someone asks "what's wrong", it is often easier to point to things like this rather than deep systemic issues with one's portfolio or more complicated matters. Sometimes, when the customer says what you heard, it's because they see no value in diving deeper if you don't bother to answer your phone.

Im a self employed real estate inspector. My goal is to be the BEST inspector in San Antonio market. There are no prizes for it but it makes me do things Indont always feel like doing and that others won't do like crawl in a tight attic or under a house with limited access.

Any time I hear that voice in my head saying, you don't need to open that or crawl to that corner of the attic, I say to myself "you can not be the best if you do not do these things. It's all the motivation I need.

For a time I was the best at generating reports and using Excel. That was mostly because some of the other managers were ancient and the others didn't care enough to try to be good at it. Now the new guy has come in and uses Microsoft Power BI and has become the data reporting guy.

Do the hard jobs. Take ownership. Know how to manage up. Treat people fairly. Have a strong work ethic.

I think my distinguishing feature at work is scrupulousness. I need to pay full attention to the task and constantly work with numbers.

World expert on 3 technologies. Show up when help is needed then fade back into the cornfield like Shoeless Joe.
