Hi I am looking for some resources to get started on getting my PMP Certification.

I know I have the hours, etc. to qualify - I just don't know where to start.

I have the latest PMBOK (but have not yet started reading).

I want to take a boot camp in the next 2 months, then sit for the exam.

Any help would be appreciated.

I studied and just completed it last year - took 6 months of studying at night to do it.

Wait to take it

If you have not applied already you are basically screwed for this year as the exam changes effective March 26 from version 5 to 6 of the PMBOK

Definitely use an Excel template to organize your hours for the application as hours cannot overlap and you have to provide a summary per project of 250 characters. You also need 35 contact (education) hours in addition to 4500 PM hours to apply. You can search the web for examples of templates.

As far as resources:

Use Rita's 9th edition book when it becomes available. Also I paid for the exam simulator by Cornelius fichtner And it was very helpful since they gave you almost 2000 questions but it was very similar to the experience you have on the exam. I went through all of the questions at least once. It shows you how you were trending and areas you need to work on.

Happy to answer any additional questions you may have. Studies show that you can expect your salary increases of 20 to 25% if you pass.

Good luck!

One other thought

Join PMI - you get an exam discount and a free digital copy of the PMBOK. Plus access to videos for claiming PDUs when you pass. (Need 60 hours every 3 Years)

This was also a great website for notes tips and how to apply, I used it alot as he had just started it when I began my journey

I passed in 2015. Application was easy and the odds of getting audited are <5%. As long as you can back-up your experience, don't worry.

My employer does quarterly, in-house workshops with Velociteach. M-F of 8-5 class and I took it the immediate Monday after.

I spent the weekend re-typing all my notes as that helps me commit to memory. I still have it saved as a .pdf if you're interested.

Thanks Guys, I am pretty sure I have PMBOK 6 already.

Can anyone recommend another "boot camp" to go through? my emplyoer is paying for it, but I don't want to make sure I get it right the first time.

I second Velociteach. I scheduled the class one week, and the exam for the following week. After going through their class, I studied probably 1-2 hours a day until the test. Mostly I just did various practice exams and reviewed the mind maps. I passed no problem. I didn't think the test was actually that hard. Reading the PMBOK and using any real world project knowledge won't help IMO. Follow what the class teaches and get an understanding of how they pose questions through practice exams and you'll do fine.

I took a 4-day boot camp from PMTI and easily passed the exam the next day. The biggest thing for me was understanding how the exam was formatted and how the questions were typically worded.

I did pmti and took the test the next day as well. Passed easily.

You basically need to understand the types of questions they ask and why they answered it the way they did when you didn't.

Changed companies since I posted this, and never sat for the PMP. I have worked out with my boss to get this done in 2024 -

Is this PMTI? I as because the url looked a little off on google search and wanted to make sure I had the right trainers.

PMT Institute - PMP Boot camps (4pmti.com)

I've also checked out the Velociteach, but their course is now offered only online it appears.

I think so. However I did it in 2008 so it was a while ago. My work at the time recommended and paid for the course.
