They were both already friendly cousins under the ETE master limited partnership and will still be run by ETE management at the top. I think it's just "financial engineering" as someone else pointed out.

Affected as an investor. Had some shares that were once Stripes convenience stores/Susser holdings. Lots of deals and financial engineering since then.
