I remember it as Sparky's. Study to 9:45p, make there by 9:59p buy a pitcher Of Old Mildew(Milwaukee) for 50 cents, another at 10:15 and 10:29 before the sprecial ended and be set for the evening. Even remembered buying a pizza there once. Had senior ring night there also, one night in the spring if you were graduating, you could buy pitchers of beer for the price of our class year.

Actually thought of making a personal CD and calling it Sparky Favorite.

Watch a few episodes of "Diners, Drive-in & Dives" and model the business after the best of these places.

Call your place texags and have two Female bathooms and a know it all section in the back.

Small town cafe. Chicken fried steak or another home style meal ( meat loaf, turkey and dressing, fried fish) as a lunch special each day. Good rolls, corn bread, and home made pies. Every small town has a place like this. I think it would work great in B/CS.

How about a place that serves good seafood? Big ass fried shrimp, cornbread hush-puppies, fried catfish(breaded with cornmeal) etc.

I've lived in B/CS for 7 years, and what we need is a catfish place. Just catfish, fried, blackened, or grilled. Sides of pinto beans, blackeyed peas, cole slaw, fresh salad, green beans, and hush puppies. Keep it simple, but keep it at a high quality.

There really isn't a good Cajun place in College station

You need BBQ or pizza to go with the beer.

Can never have enough of those. Hopefully they can have some of that peppered dipping sauce too....hard to find nowadays.

Steak and Shake and when you do it, i want in! Students would love it bc its cheap open 24hrs for studying while drinking a milkshake!

Ideas since you asked: Texas home cooking' featuring catfish, chicken fried anything, lots of cream gravy, Polish sausage, schnitzel, Tex-mex (like Alamo Cafe style) cheese enchiladas..regional fav's with Texas beer too among other spirits. Either keep the tables for dining or use the tables at wall decor--saw legs off, hang tables On walls / section dividers so patrons can write / carve on them. Other seating--banquet style picnic tables mix in bar area with sports channels throughout. Throw in rugged leather and cattle accents and call it Revielle's Kitchen and Bar. Opening night ask patrons to bring a Texas relic--picture, old tin signs, whatever that represents Texas. This can take the place of a cover charge.

From what I was told Texadelphia was closed because the owner felt it had turned into more of a bar than a restaurant. I know for a fact they started having open mic night etc. after the kitchen closed. I think aTexadelphia would be great and with enough TV's it fits the demand for another sports bar type of place in CS without just being anotherFox & Hound.

You might consider an off-campus Which Wich. Yes there are a lot of sandwich shops in BCS, but there are a lot in other markets as well, and that place is packed everywhere.

Twin Peaks might happen. Need to find the right location first.

That's to say some things are almost gauranteed to lose money. You appear to be ready to dive into the worst of the bunch. Not only that, get ready to be chained to the location and become it's slave. When you do break away, expect your cellphone to be blown up with things like personnel issues, alarm calls, gas leaks, missing money, vendor problems, and on and on.

FYI I say this as someone who's owned 3 food biz's simultaneously. It's a good way to throw a chunk of your life away and willingly give up your freedom and cash.

And some of the posters on here....I don't think you're coming from a "college" perspective. That location...in that town....will have to depend HEAVILY on college students. If you go with a strictly catfish type place you've just alienated a huge portion of your college group (women). Lots of beers (translation: many of them expensive) and you just alienated much of your college crowd (or at the very least priced them out of the place). Or if they do show up to drink your cheap beer, you've wasted a lot of money on expensive beer that's just sitting there (Ol Jock alluded to this on page 1).

If you were out on University, Rock Prairie, etc., you could focus more towards adults. But in that spot....seems to me you HAVE to be student focused.

AND break their habit of going to Northgate. In my years in CS I've seen several nice bars come and go that didn't have a single thing wrong with them other than they were not on Northgate.

*Texadelphia doesn't do the best market research on where/what they need to be successful. The one in CS didn't last, and there's been 2 in Fort Worth that come and gone.

*Everybody wants a sports bar, but everyone has thought that would be a good idea in CS "a real sports bar!" for 2 decades now and no one has been able to really pull it off.

*Bring Mama's Pizza back.
