Trying to put together a budget for a start up. I realize this can vary, but does anyone have any ideas on what an average cost per KM is for 2D/3D seismic surveys? Properties we have are in the Madisonville/Centerville areas, so terrain is relatively easy.

You should check to see if there is existing seismic for your acreage. You could get a licence to that and have it reprocessed. Would probably be better than a proprietary shoot.

I work in the offshore business, so I don't really have a feel for how much an onshore seismic set would be. I assume it's charged by the acre. In the GoM, proprietary seismic shoots are expensive (tens of millions). Spec shoots (where the seismic company owns the seismic and is free to license it to multiple clients) is less expensive. I would assume the same is true onshore, but I can't say for sure.

We are checking into that, but don't know if it's there or not. It should be, there is existing production on the property, so it's got to be out there.

I'll just throw some numbers out there as a starting point. Costs will vary wildy based on permitting costs, size of job, and most importantly, the technical specifications of the survey needed to obtain your objectives (fold, target depth, aperture, etc.) I'm going to assume this is a land job somewhere in Texas using vibe sources.

Strictly proprietary 3D: ~ $125k /sq. mi
Underwriting or purchase of spec 3D: ~$80k /sq. mi.
Proprietary 2D: ~$20k / linear mile. (I'm just guessing here)
Spec 2D: $1.5-5k / linear mile

For seismic processing, $800 / sq. mi. for 3D and $400 / mi. for 2D would be ballpark prices.
