I moved here (Mt. Pleasant) after graduating, and I love it. I know 3 or 4 Aggies in the area.
As far as living here, here are a few things to know.
1) The South Carolina education system is one of the worst in the country. Charleston is not exempt from that, except Hanahan ISD and Mount Pleasant ISD both have excellent schools (given the area). Most families send their kids to private schools around here.
2) Charleston has EVERYTHING (except big pro sports). There is a great nightlife downtown for the college and young professionals crowd, as well as in West Ashley and at several places in Mount Pleasant. The beach crowd is unique and each beach offers different things - Isle of Palms offers a pretty vibrant, but family friendly atmosphere/Folly Beach is more the college crowd, and is considered by some the "party beach" of the area (although recently they cracked down on alcohol bans); Sullivans Island is the quieter beach, and is more well-known for its dining (Poe's Tavern Burgers, Taco Mamacita, Home Team BBQ, etc). From a historical perspective, this place holds an incredible amount of history. Homes downtown have plaques that give information about the histories of families who have lived there, tours go everywhere. There are remnants of every part of American History located in Charleston.
3) The weather is great. I have lived here since January 2011. It gets hot, but not hotter than College Station or Houston. It gets cold, but not for more than a few days and not colder than Texas either. The ocean keeps the temperature a bit more moderate here. I played beach volleyball at the Windjammer every weekend of January this year.
I think it is a city anyone can enjoy if they visit. I don't know a single person who lives here who is trying to leave for a reason other than family or work.
