Can anyone comment on what it would be like to live there? I'm younger and have always been intrigued by living there. Thanks

Grew up in Mt. Pleasant and still spend 1/4 weeks there. Great place to live!

I don't live in Charleston, but it's one of my favorite cities in the US. I go there as often as possible, and actually just moved to a little town about an hour and a half away. The South Carolina lowcountry is probably my favorite area of the country outside of Texas.

Sounds like y'all should get an Aggie club going - my brother and I ('04 and '02, respectively), are in Myrtle and would be happy to come down.

This is a FB group I tried to get going - might be useful.

I moved here (Mt. Pleasant) after graduating, and I love it. I know 3 or 4 Aggies in the area.

As far as living here, here are a few things to know.

1) The South Carolina education system is one of the worst in the country. Charleston is not exempt from that, except Hanahan ISD and Mount Pleasant ISD both have excellent schools (given the area). Most families send their kids to private schools around here.

2) Charleston has EVERYTHING (except big pro sports). There is a great nightlife downtown for the college and young professionals crowd, as well as in West Ashley and at several places in Mount Pleasant. The beach crowd is unique and each beach offers different things - Isle of Palms offers a pretty vibrant, but family friendly atmosphere/Folly Beach is more the college crowd, and is considered by some the "party beach" of the area (although recently they cracked down on alcohol bans); Sullivans Island is the quieter beach, and is more well-known for its dining (Poe's Tavern Burgers, Taco Mamacita, Home Team BBQ, etc). From a historical perspective, this place holds an incredible amount of history. Homes downtown have plaques that give information about the histories of families who have lived there, tours go everywhere. There are remnants of every part of American History located in Charleston.

3) The weather is great. I have lived here since January 2011. It gets hot, but not hotter than College Station or Houston. It gets cold, but not for more than a few days and not colder than Texas either. The ocean keeps the temperature a bit more moderate here. I played beach volleyball at the Windjammer every weekend of January this year.

I think it is a city anyone can enjoy if they visit. I don't know a single person who lives here who is trying to leave for a reason other than family or work.

Lived in Mt. Pleasant now for 10 years. Great place to live, but nothing like Texas. Working on putting together a Lowcountry A&M club. One in Columbia and Upstate, but nothing here until you get down to Savannah.

Did one of y'all send me a message requesting to join the FB group I set up?

I got one of those "other" messages on it - and I just deleted it, as one of my friends had gotten hacked, and was spamming people - didn't realize it was from someone else until it was already deleted.

I did send a request. I am intrigued by Charleston. Cannot live there yet but I hope to visit. I am a master swimmer and the swim events and beach look great. Not a big deal. Perhaps I can visit some time. Whit

We will be in Charleston from 12/20-12/25. Staying at Lodge Alley Inn on E. Bay.

Have been there 2 different times and have a good feel for restuarants, etc, but any ideas on Christmas things to do would be appreciated. I have looked a the CVB site and they list a number of good things.

Would be open to meeting any Ags for a drink in the downtown area on Friday or Saturday.

Does anyone in Charleston have any leads on jobs in supply chain management, contracts, or procurement?

EMc77:

James Island (just south of downtown) has a Christmas Lights drive that is very cool.

I highly recommend it.
