For the top restaurants you'll need a reservation. Tlaquepaque is great for shopping.

Sedona is really crowded in October, especially the weekends. Try as much as possible to not be there on a weekend. Also try not to be there when school students are on their Fall break.

If you are getting there by flying into Phoenix and then driving up to Sedona -- the traffic on I-17 going northbound can get quite excessive on Friday afternoon, and really excessive going southbound on Sunday afternoon. This is because half of Phoenix spends their weekends in the high country. Also, if you decide to drive north to Flagstaff and take 89A through Oak Creek Canyon, the traffic on the weekends can be very bad, meaning it can take several hours to make that 40 mile journey. The traffic is even worse when school is not in session.

Consider visiting the Tripadvisor website and do a search for "Arizona", and then go to the AZ forum. There you will find a huge amount of info for Sedona, as there are some regulars there who live in or near Sedona. You can find answers to all four of your categories there.

If you want to eat at the popular places like Elote, you need to make your reservations yesterday.

For trails, I recommend Devil's Bridge and Boyton's Canyon. Get there early. The trailheads fill up very quickly in the morning.

Rent a jeep and you can drive closer to the trailhead.

And explore more areas.

Hiking trails - all of these pretty easy/moderate

Devil's Bridge - probably most famous for the bridge. Do it early unless you want to wait in line forever for the iconic photo
Bell Rock area - multiple trail options, lot of people but didn't feel cramped
Airport Loop - less busy, nice views
Birthing Cave Trail - amazing view at the end.

If you AirBNB, find one on the edge of town. That way you can avoid the in-town traffic getting to some of the destinations. Do all you can early in the morning.

Tip - your vehicle rental will probably get dirty from tracking in all the red dirt. Be careful, get some temporary mats, or clean it. Rental agency fined the hell out of me, even though I've done similar on other trips. Read similar stories online. I got out of most of it after going nuclear with them over a few weeks, but still.

We stayed at Amara when we went, and I enjoyed being able to walk from the hotel up to the main street. If the shuttles are running it makes getting to the trailheads a lot easier. If you're not familiar with driving a four wheel drive over rocky terrain I'm not sure I'd recommend renting a Jeep. We hiked out on the road into Devil's Bridge, and it looked like it would have been a pain to drive in on.

There are the shuttles that take you to trailheads, they run frequently and we found them really convenient. If you can, look up Top of the World north of town. A nice day trip with several stops on the way you can hit. Devil's Bridge is CROWDED so get there early, be patient or as said earlier, work within the most potential down times.

Be careful on the trails. We speak from experience that the EMTs are top notch and care at the emergency clinic is pretty good. South of town I really liked Montezuma's Castle and Well for some out of the way places.

We were there in late July, as part of a larger SW roadtrip (17 days, 4300 miles). We drove in from Munds Park. We did a loop at Bell Rock/Courthouse Butte. I'm sure the weather will be much more pleasant when you're going! We wanted to do Slide Rock at Oak Creek, but pocket fires + rain had led to unsafe water conditions and closures. I hope you have a great trip!

Head over to downtown Cottonwood too, they'll have a winery and cool shops and restaurants all on a walkable main street.
