I live in Virginia. We are doing Thanksgiving with my wife's family in Oklahoma this year. I have 2 kids (6 and 4) and twins due this month.

I'm not excited about flying with the newborns and accoutrements that come with them so I want to rent an RV and road trip it. For reference, we drive home to Texas a couple times a year or more and often camp along the way. Flying would also require renting a car in Oklahoma City and driving an hour and a half to get where we're going.

My biggest question is about car seats in a class C or class A RV. I know there are lap belts on the couch seating, but are these safe in practice for car seats? Are there any RV style options that at least have a second row of front facing seats bolted down to the chassis for the newborn car seats? I think we can handle the road trip with babies, but not in my wife's van or my SUV. We'd need room to stretch out on stops, feed the babies, not have to unload at hotels or set up a camp site, etc.

How dumb is this idea?

I'd rather spend 3 hours on an airplane with babies than 24+ hours hauling them across the country.

Any way the wife's family can come to you?

Just give the kids benadryl like my parents did when we had to make those "memorable" trips to visit family.

Have them sleep the whole way.
