Taking my teenagers to play Torrey Pines. Would love any input for restaurant recommendations and interesting things to do. Thanks.

Check out the glider port. Cool lunch spot with best view in SD in my opinion. Served Sandos and beers and watch the gliders take off

Also depending the time of year you are right by Del Mar a race track. It's currently the fair until July 6, but horse racing starts 7/17.

Del Mar has a lot of good restaurants and environments..

Jake's Del Mar
Monarch (highly recommend for views and dinner)
Tamarind (very good and right below monarch)
Steak 48 if you want to drop some serious coin on a steak house

Just me personally but I would avoid actual downtown La Jolla. It's a lot seals and seal aroma. Plenty to do and see here just my own opinion.

Other cool things I like to do personally:

San Diego Zoo…we have passes and still like going multiple times a year

Padres game if they're in town. Petco park is an amazing stadium

USS Midway for some history

Beach day it. The water temps are around 68 right now and will continue to get warmer. Water has been amazing lately.

There's also a bunch of good golf courses I'm sure you can sneak some extra rounds in if that's the goal…these are all within 35 minutes of each other of TP if you avoid rush hour in the evening:

Encinitas Ranch (great course)
RB Inn
The Crossings (Carlsbad)
Goat Hill in Oceanside (very tough..)

Enjoy the weather!

How did you get a tee time? We tried last year and couldn't.

La Jolla Cove was super cool - the area is really nice a lot of shops and restaurants and seeing the sea lions there was actually really neat.

I booked a room at the Hilton Torrey Pines and they put a priority on guests getting tee times. It was the only way I could make it work.

I stayed at the Hilton Torey Pines a year or two ago and there isn't much to do in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The only good restaurant around was at the Inn of Torrey Pines - the rooms they have next to the club house. You can walk over or they have carts to take you. The Hilton is dated but they upgraded us so we had a great view with a large patio overlooking the golf course and the ocean.

We had lunch at Duke's (nice view) and dinner at Puesto. They were both good. I would recommend a cheese burger and a Pliny at the Grill at Torrey Pines after your round

We also did some kayaking and of course the San Diego Zoo.

FYI.

There are some other really good courses within 45 minutes drive that are a great value.

I like the canyon and the ranch nines.

While not new nor does it have anything around it, but Stone Brewing restaurant and outside gardens are also a great place to take in the good weather. Liberty Station location is close, but I like the patio gardens better at Escondido.

San Diego zoo is iconic, but we actually prefer the wild animal park. More like animal kingdom at Disney than a zoo.

Dukes has nice views.

Just a couple doors down in George's at the Cove. Their rooftop patio is more casual and even better views.

Unless it has changed, (pre renovation) you could go over to the Hotel Del and rent beach chairs / towels for the day without having to stay at the hotel. Really nice beach spot and easy walk up Orange street a couple of blocks for casual lunch or breakfast / coffee. Just be aware during the summer sting rays migrate up the coast and hundreds of people each day get barbed. They'll be lined up at the life gaurd stations with feet in bloddy buckets.
