For the past few years, we've spent June and July in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and we'll be doing the same this year. I usually like to keep things spontaneous for the majority of the summer, but I'm starting to think about plans for the 4th of July. The last two years, we've met up with family and friends in Boston and done the whole touristy/fireworks over the harbor thing. Which was amazing, but this time, I'm hoping for something different.

I'm looking for suggestions on where to go from July 3-6. We're open to anywhere in New England, ideally within a couple of hours' drive from an airport, since we'll likely have family coming in to join us. There doesn't necessarily need to be a big fireworks thing, but not opposed to that. Just want somewhere with pleasant weather that isn't going to be completely overrun with tourists.

Okay after looking at lodging options, I think I'm sold on this. I had originally had Newport in the back of my mind, but was worried it would be too crowded for the holiday. This looks a lot more laid back.
