Tipping Housekeepers

What's the "2025 standard" on tipping housekeepers while traveling? Growing up, it was never something that seemed expected, but now (along with everywhere else) there's a spot to tip. Does it matter if a cleaning fee was already included in the cost like AirBnB/VRBO? What about hotels?

I realize this can vary culturally, we're talking about good ole USA here.

I never tip and if there is a card with a QR code on it at a hotel I throw that away.

Insert Clint Eastwood front porch scowl from Gran Torino here.

Never tip AirBNB or VRBO since there is always a substantial cleaning fee involved.

At hotels sometimes leave a few bucks, especially if I have interacted with the cleaning staff during the stay.

I never tip in airBNb. Hotels I'll throw. $5 down for a couple night stay.

No chance in hell I'm tipping at an Airbnb

For hotels, I generally have the do not disturb sign out the length of my stay and do not tip. If I need something like a rollaway bed, crib, new towels, etc I'll tip/leave ~$5

I generally do a couple of dollars a day for domestic. Mom always taught me $1/person per day.

Used to leave it at the end, but sometimes you have different ones, so I do it daily (although often they only come every 2-3 days).

For all-inclusive resorts I do $5/day.

I leave tips domestically at $2-3 per day on my pillow and $5 per day on the pillow for international. My thoughts are housekeeping in most of these hotels work very hard and this is the least I could do

I never tip at Airbnb because of the cleaning fee/no daily cleaning.

I usually tip $10 a day in hotels. I've found that it leads to 1) my room being cleaned earlier for the duration of the stay (which I like because most of the time on vacation I tend to head out really early and come back in the afternoon, and there is nothing more annoying than having to wait in the lobby for housekeeping to finish your room) and 2) they'll usually leave extra amenities like bottled water, chocolates, etc.

As an AirBnB operator, I would agree with everyone on here, that's what the cleaning fee is for. I either clean it myself or more often, have someone do it that we hire. We have a regular housekeeper, or one of my HS or college daughters that is trying to earn money, and it's an agreed upon rate. I think any of us would assume that if we found money laying around it was left by accident. No tipping at AirBnB is needed.

Great insight. Related question - do you tip after staying at your timeshare?

Edit - disregard the timeshare quip. Your username is similar to another poster who was selling one on lake conroe a while back.
