Hi guys- wife and I are travelling to Dublin for a couple days on our way to England. We have never been to Ireland so wanted to spend a couple nights. We reached out to some friends in England and their comments were that there really isn't much to see or do in Dublin aside from the brewery.

I find that hard to believe. Any must see places while we are in Dublin?

Dublin has a lot to offer for tourists. Can also take a day trip to Howth, which is a 30 minute train ride.

Grafton St. has lots of shops and restaurants. A walk through St Stephen's Green which is adjacent to Grafton St. Try walking through the less touristy neighborhoods and finding a pub to have a pint or two.

Of course Temple Bar, wasn't my taste but is worth walking through.

Two days is plenty in Dublin, but still worth it. The best of Ireland is outside of the city. What's the alternative with more days in England?

I actually had the opposite reaction. Going into my trip to Ireland, I was expecting to be underwhelmed by Dublin. So I intentionally made it the final destination and only for a few days. While I totally enjoyed W/SW Ireland (County Galway, County Clare, County Kerry, et al.) much better, I still found Dublin to be a nice place to visit.

I think spending a couple days or a long weekend in Dublin is fine. But would choose spending more time along the west coast.

We really enjoyed our time in Dublin. It's small, walkable, easy to get around. Even if you don't see much that appeals to you Ireland is so small you can take a day trip to anywhere. Dublin was our home base and took day trips to see the Cliffs of Mohr and Galway on the west coast and the Giants Causeway on the north coast of N Ireland.

We went in 2019 and stayed in Howth and would get the train over to Dublin to do the touristy stuff. Really glad we chose that rather than trying to stay in Dublin.

We finished our last 2-3 nights in Ireland in Dublin due to the fact we flew out of Dublin. The best part of the trip by far was our trips to the SW coast. The next time we travel to Ireland we will spend more time in County Kerry.
