You read it right. Headed to Bora Bora in two weeks. Probably gonna take a thing of Malibu and a 2L of Coke. Although I'm terrified to put one in a checked bag. Should I be?

You can buy both of those things when you arrive. If you feel the need to bring them with you for some reason, they should travel fine. Put in a vacuum bag to prevent leaks. Wrap in shirt to prevent broken glass. Enjoy Bora Bora mr humblebrag.

Put them next to your Arctic tumbler wrapped in jorts and you'll be fine. Enjoy Bora Bora.

I put a bottle of dom perignon wrapped in a ski jacket in my checked bag on NYE last year because I knew I wouldn't be able to buy champagne on a Sunday in Utah. It arrived intact. So I'd say a glass bottle of Malibu would be fine. But I'd be worried about a plastic 2L bottle getting crushed or punctured and exploding all over your bag. Surely they have soda in Bora Bora?

If he's staying at a Marriott property, they're only going to have Pepsi so... I get it.

I've never checked a 2L of soda but I have checked a lot of bottles of Tide. Usually the 92 or 108 oz bottles.

The only problem I had was the TSA taking the lid off and failing to put it back on properly.

I had laundry detergent everywhere.

Come to find out, that's a popular smuggling method for Cocaine.

Buy the Malibu at the Duty Free when you leave. Then you can just carry it. It will be cheaper anyway. That's what I always do.

Get your coke at a store in airport. Problem solved.

Agree I can likely find Malibu in the airport in Tahiti. Wasn't sure about the Coke or Coke Zero, especially anything beyond a 20oz. Also, we land at like 6am, so I'm wondering if it will be open.

Just seems wrong to ask the concierge to try and find them for me. That said, rumor is drinks are $25 a pop. Mr humblebrag blew his budget just getting there so trying to be economical where I can. We'll take a few bottles of wine but for some reason those don't concern me. I guess it's the carbonation I'm worried about exploding.

She's put up with me for 25 years. So off we go to celebrate.

I will say this: I dislike Coca Cola light outside of the USA. Diet Coke is my jam, and nothing tastes the same.

Following for trip highlights.

We canceled our trip the last time due to Covid and now it is back on the radar.

Coca Cola always tastes a little different due to the local water and maybe other ingredients like - real sugar.

When I lived in Australia, a 600ml Coke was about $3.50 and it tasted fairly normal.
When I traveled to Taiwan, their 500ml Cokes cost about 75 cents but, they tasted funky due to the local water.

No way I'd want a carbonated soda that will have pressure issues in my luggage or carried on a plane. Plenty of videos of people who regretted that decision.

We bought a bottle of tequila and vodka at LAX duty free, then just had mixers delivered to the room. That was just for drinking in the room/patio/boat tour, still spent plenty drinking on the beach and restaurants. I wouldn't travel with a 2L.

Back before everybody had a video camera in their hand, when I was a kid in Saudi Arabia, we used to routinely bring 6-packs of Coca Cola back into The Kingdom after summer vacation to The USA. Rumor was that because there was a Coca Cola plant in Israel, we weren't allowed to have it in KSA.

We knew plenty of folks who even brought back an entire case of Cokes in their luggage.

Back in the 1980s, flying Internationally, you could check 3 bags but, we also had to pack our entire wardrobe for the upcoming school year (August - June) so you could only bring a limited amount of non-essential stuff with you.

That usually worked out pretty well except for the year I grew 3 shoe sizes and had to buy local Saudi shoes instead of my favored American Nikes. I have to confess that, I sure did like those Black and Fluorescent Green PONY screw-in soccer cleats that we got at the only sporting goods store in my hometown. They looked like these but with the 4 cleats in the front and 2 in the heel.

Thankfully Saudis are generally tall and have big feet. Buying locally sourced shoes was virtually impossible when I lived in Australia.

Polynesians down there love Coke, unless you are staying at a Marriott property you should not have a problem finding it, if at a Marriott get some at the little store at BOB before your boat leaves.

Get your booze at the duty free in LAX or PPT and you will be set.

I'd never fly with a carbonated beverage checked. No way.

But if you gotta have your Malibu, seriously, get it at the Duty Free where you leave the US.

If you were going to Belize and taking Malibu, I'd call you CRAZY because they have the absolutely best coconut rum on the planet in Belize.

i've flown with beer in checked bags more times than i can count. Never had an issue. that said, beer has a lower carbonation than soda.
