Has anyone used a private car for transport from the airport in Cancun to Playa or Tulum? If so, I'd be curious who you went through or if you have contact info. TIA

Are you wanting a private transfer through a transfer company? or to hire just a driver for your time in Cancun/Tulum?

Kalido Travel has all private transfers and are priced well.
Royal Transfers are a client favorite recently.
Amstar is also a client favorite but tends to be more expensive than others.

I have some luxury private transfer options that clients are leaning more towards these days as well.

Thanks for the response. I was looking for something similar to an Uber Black that I could have waiting at the airport when I get in. My wife and in-laws are down there already so I wanted to grab something that I could avoid the stops all the way down to Playa. I booked one last night based on some reviews I read on a few different options.

I've used Canada Transfers for a private transfer to/from the airport and Akumal and it went perfectly smooth. If we go back i'll use them again.

After doing the transfer services at the base level with multiple stops our first few times to resorts sound of CUN, we just started booking non-stop service. They will typically partner you with a few other folks in the van but no extra stops at other resorts on the way down and back to the airport.

Just a headed up, Milton ate alot of the beach in PDC. Playa Mamitas is basically totally gone.

The Beach Today in Tulum was as beautiful as I've ever seen it. It was stunning

We've used Lomas Travel multiple times. They have great service, especially if you go with the private transfers.

Happy to hear that! That is who I ended up booking with. They've been good at checking in with me and giving directions to find them when I land later.

I just rented a car at the airport and drove myself to Tulum. Was easy as can be.

Then I had a car for the week. Went to some Mayan ruins. Lots of cenotes.

What did that cost? Do you recommend a company?

I believe we used Enterprise and rented a small suv

The rental itself was super cheap. Like $10 a day. However, because it's Mexico we maxed out the insurance and that ended up being like $60 or $70 a day. I think for the week it ended up being around $500.

I don't know what those shuttles cost, but I just really enjoyed the freedom to go where we wanted, whenever we wanted. The Mayan ruins at Coba were pretty amazing. Drove to a couple of cenotes. Went to some restaurants off the beaten path.

Enterprise is the best American rental company IMO. Their Staff at Cancn AirPort is great and the cars are good cars. They also have a local office in Tulum and they are the BEST. Francisco, Sergio, and Jennifer are AMAZING. If you rent through enterprise National and have any issues at all, they are the best local team, hands down. They are professional. You feel like you're in the US when you rent w them. Avis Alamo Sixt etc all have alot of shade under their Tree. Hertz is also great. If you rent through Expedia it comes with LTPL coverage. If you then use a CC w auto protection, that blankets on collision coverage. That means if you want full coverage you only need to buy the comprehensive portion. I usually don't buy full coverage. I just want the LTPL and collison. The Chase United auto coverage includes loss of vehicle days for rental agency etc.

My all in cost w Enterprise is usually about $12/day.

Where are you staying in Tulum? Alot of the streets in La Veleta and Region 15 will require an SUV. Aldea Zama Tulum Beach and Centro you're good w a lower profile vehicle.

The other issue you'll have in Tulum is the taxi unin is corrupt as the Biden Family. They are KNEE to WAIST deep w the cartels. I don't recommend that tourists EVER use a taxi here: EVER. We don't use them and we live here and speak Native spanish.

A taxi ride anywhere in Tulum will be a base $250 for locals and usually $350+ for tourists. That means you more than pay for the rental with 1 equivalent taxi ride per day.

Also, as a tourist you get 2 non-serious Traffic tickets dismissed automatically by the State of QR. I can send you the info. We keep it on our phone just in case we ever need to use it.

Now small note: speeding over a certain limit is considered a serious Traffic offense so just don't speed +15 kph as hard as that is some times.

If you do rent a car, I have a portable tire air compresor / battery jump start kit. This sounds weird but tires go flat and batteries die here all of the time. Tires go flat because of the 1000 speed bumps + pot holes. If you find your tire consistanly getting low it's 99% of the time a bad Valve/Stem and not the actual tire. It's $50 peso fix at a llantaria. The Key is having enough air to get to one. Batteries die I assume because of the heat and humidity. Having the ability to jump start will potentially save you a huge headache. If you'd like to borrow one of our compressors / battery kits while here just lmk and I can drop it off. It makes life much less stressful.

We've been doing private transfers with Canada Transfers for the last 10 years, but have had good experiences with Kalido as well. We've used Amstar or Season Tours when they were included with hotel bookings. They were fine, but they're usually more expensive than the others I mentioned if you book them yourself.

If you decide to come to Tulum, you will 100% want a car. It is not a walkable town. You'll spend a FORTUNE on transfers and taxis if not.

I'm going to be staying at Secrets Moxche the first week of November, but my wife and I are planning to go into PDC to dive 2 or 3 days. Should we rent a car to go back and forth or just depend on taxis?
