I am traveling in Germany next week for work. Last meeting is over late morning on Wednesday and don't fly out till Thursday morning. Any tips to see anything Oktoberfest related in Munich on Wednesday evening?

I've only been once, so i'm sure someone will come along with better advice, but...

you can still have a good time, but you likely won't be getting into any tents (especially sans reservation) showing up later in the day. There are still biergartens and such you can enjoy...and plenty of carnival rides. Drunk bumper cars might be one of the greatest things ever. Definitely wear lederhosen. If you don't, you'll be one of the few.

Get over there as soon as you can and try to get a table from lunch crowd leaving a big tent. I ate a raw radish from a group of farmers to get their table. You can't order beer inside the big tents without a seat at a table.

Plenty to do outside the tents.

Being a weekday just walk into a tent and look for a table that is not full and ask if you can join them. We went last year and 2 of us could normally find a group we could stand with. There is no sitting in the evening everyone is standing on the benches singing and toasting. Weekends are much busier and harder to find tables that aren't full. PROST!!

This thread is a week old but hopefully you made it! If its just you, or even 2-3 people, can easily grab a spot at a table if you get there late morning even.....part of the fun is becoming best friends with whatever random collection of people that happen to be at your table.

For you or anyone else thats going and hasn't been - this is the tent we've had the most luck at:

Was there Saturday and Sunday for opening weekend! Wow, the amount of people!

To have the best chance of finding a table, it needs to be a mid week day…early like 10a-12p…and with crap weather. With that said, if you are a party of one, go check out the tents, hope they are still open to people walking in, and find a table with cool people and slide in. The servers will/can help you find a table.

I was in the Spatenbru-Festhalle which was cool. It's a huge tent and they roast oxen on a huge spit.

You don't need a seat at a table if you go to the center areas of the Hoffbrau tent in front of the band. The tables are standing areas with tall tables and there's plenty of room on a Wednesday. It's also the tent I like the most.

Made it! Went to Hofbrau as recommended. Damn there are a lot of people at Oktoberfest! I also stuck out like a sore thumb wearing jeans, but still had a great time!
