How long do you want to ignore this user?
Going to Lauterbrunnen in early September and expect to make a few day trips to the higher elevations. I'm going to pack several layers, including a wool sweater. My question is how heavy a coat do I need to bring along?

Years ago I was on Mount Titlis with layers and a fleece pullover and was fine, but that was on a sunny day in June. I have a heavy parka but would rather not lug it around if a lighter parka will be enough with the layers.

TIA

micro puff jacket that stuffs into its own pocket and lightweight outer water resistant windbreaker should do it. Cools off fast a night.

Don't bring anything heavy. What you need is a packable down puffy jacket. If you don't have one, try to borrow one. An Eddie Bauer micro therm or similar is all you will need. If colder, fleece under layer.

ETA - as the above post mentioned, if you have a packable rain outer layer, bring it. If you don't have one, ask your friends to borrow one.
Source - I live in Switzerland.

Checking in to see if you made the trip over yet? The weather starting today and through this next week turns wetter and colder. Will most likely be snowing higher up by end of week.

What's mid May weather like in the Lauterbrunnen Valley?

In May, the weather is highly variable with chances of rain 50%..Some days are absolutely gorgeous with full sun, however, mostly you will have partly cloudy skies. Temps can/will be cool to cold. However, on those sunny days, it's a dream as the temps are cooler but you just soak up the sun.

I looked back at my pictures over the past 2 years during April May...some days were short sleeves and shorts, some days were a heavier fleece and jacket...and clouds were common.

I found this site which explains it well in detail https://wanderlog.com/weather/14830/5/lauterbrunnen-weather-in-may

Very helpful!

Do you have any favorite restaurants in that region? We are staying in Grindelwald for 6 days.

Plus one in Zurich on the way out.

I haven't had any food in that region. If you come to the Eastern border w/ Liechtenstein, I have plenty of recs.
