Headed to visit my son in Charleston this weekend. He is stationed at the joint AF/Naval base there studying as a nuke.

Any suggestions for must sees/do in Charleston for a dad/son? We are going to go see the Carrier there and the old Fort, but not sure what else to see.

Good recs for good food joints?

There have been several threads on this, if you search. My favorite restaurant was 82 Queen. I believe the lunch and dinner menus are very similar, if not the same.

I highly recommend Slightly North of Broad (SNOB).

82 Queen is very good, too. We also liked Prohibition.

If you're looking for a place to grab a beer or hang out, I recommend Charleston Beer Works on King, Bay Street Biergarten or Big John's Tavern.

I don't go to that city without visiting SNOB. Walking down the from market st to the battery is fun. There is a museum (I believe in the old customs building) where you can actually see a portion of the original wall around the city. It's pretty cool if you're into that sort of thing

Another vote for SNOB and Prohibition. Also Hank's Seafood and Callie's hot little biscuit in the market. Didn't eat the she crab soup at 82 Queen. Only way I could describe it is it was like extra thick white chicken fried steak gravy with not really any crab in it. If that's what it's supposed to be ok then, the shrimp and grits was better though. Tons of great food there, but get reservations.

Don't miss the Hunley museum. Weekends only, but an incredible experience.

Callie's Hot Little Biscuit is delicious! I also really enjoyed a place called Harken Cafe for breakfast.

Poogans porch

Fleets landing for good, casual seafood and a great view right on the water.

If you make it to Mount Pleasant, Page's Okra Grill is amazing!

we went there basically as an excuse to eat and drink last year.

167 Raw Oyster Bar was my favorite spot on the trip.

I'll be there in early December - - anything in particular to see or avoid at that time of year?

Great call. Currently my son is on tract for the Submariner route after nuke school, so that was awesome to see.

The Glass Onion was an awesome little neighborhood diner type place we hit a few weeks ago. Reasonable price, stellar food, highly recommend.
