I've been using Hertz for the last 10 years or so and I've been pretty loyal.
But recently the service has declined and the costs have skyrocketed compared to their competitors. Recent experiences have convinced me to move my business elsewhere. I've done a couple of rentals with some of the other companies, but not enough to form a great opinion on them.
I'm President's Circle with Hertz and learned that the other companies do level matching, so that places me at:
Enterprise Plus Platinum
Avis Presidents Club, and
National Emerald Club Executive Elite.
As for the membership programs, I really like the ability Hertz gave me to bypass the counter and just choose a vehicle off the lot (at most larger airports). So bypassing the counter is my primary focus for the membership program, but upgrades and points redemptions dont hurt (all of Hertz's dates seem to be blacked out nowadays).
