Haven't been to either property in 5-8 years. Anyone been recently and recommend either? Quick weekend trip with wife. No kids. Both have golf courses right?

Thanks for any advice!

Nugget to stay at. They both have courses but GN is expensive. Personally L'Auberge is one of my favorite courses, haven't played the Nugget but I've heard it's not worth it. Louisinia National in Westlake is a short drive but a great course as well.

So for hotel and gambling and food you would stay at GN? Not sure I'll play golf as it's her birthday but might sneak away while she is at spa or blackjack table. Thanks.

We were at the Nugget last April (a friend's birthday trip). I hated it…room was gross, pool area was filthy, and food and service were absolutely terrible. All for $300+ a night.

I would not go back.

For sure. L'Auberge isn't nasty or anything but restaurants are a lot more limited and rooms are a bit out of date. There is a tram going back and forth so you could still go to both.

Great food around town as well if you want venture away from the casinos.

This, there are so many food options in Lake Charles.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Spent 2 nights at Golden Nugget over MLK weekend.
Loved it.
We left Lake Charles as the temperature was dropping but before things started icing up.

Would love to go back this President's Day weekend but rooms are $400+ per night.
Horseshoe looks like it's only $300/night but I don't really feel like paying that much either.

If L'Auberge had a Poker Room, I'd consider it.

Parents went to the Horseshoe last summer and were not impressed at all. Hotel was open but renos were not finished, pool was small and not finished yet, etc. They said they preferred the other two over it.

They always seem to go back and forth on which they prefer between the Nugget and L'Auberge. I like both but haven't been in a few years.

So I like the casino better at GN. I actually found some of the food to be better price at LB. Everything at GN is "Landrys" except for the Starbucks. LB had some sandwich/salad bar type thing, I think a hot dog place (I don't eat them but this rings a bell).

This past trip I stayed at GN and never went next door.

I will say when we went to GN last summer - I dreaded getting in the lazy river. All I could think about was all the pee cause there were people EVERYWHERE. Luckily most of the adults where in the adult pools.

When did L'Auberge get rid of their poker room?

No idea. I just moved here recently from California. I'm still learning about Lake Charles.

The L'Auberge in Baton Rouge appears to have a poker room - according to the Internet.
But it doesn't look like the Lake Charles L'Auberge has a poker room.
Watching Internet travel videos, it looks like they might have remodeled recently.

I think they did away with it in the last year or 2 to make room for the sports betting deal they have now.
