I tried doing a search on mobile and nothing really came up. But from the normal travel folks, what is the best carry-on luggage you own? We the IT brand and wheels junked out after 3-4 trips. Been doing research and keep seeing Samsonite or Away brand. Any suggestions are much appreciated

I've had an indestructible north face duffel I've used as a carryon for years. I can use it as a backpack or just carry. It won't die. Which sucks, because I hate north face. But it's a damn good bag.

We swear by Briggs and Riley. My wife has a roller that is 17 years old. Lifetime warranty and it looks new. Probably traveled 500k miles.

I love my Briggs but I tell you what...my Amazon Basics roller has been thru hell and has done phenomenal. I know that is Apples to oranges but I love that cheap ass rig.

Love my away carry on. Been round the world for the last four years. It comes with a usb charging brick. The flight attendants always ask me to make sure the brick is not in the suitcase when I put it in the overhead bin but otherwise it has been nails. My wife has one too. I'm amazed at how heavy she can make that little mofo. But they've held up well.

They will get scuffed all to hell but i don't care about having the best looking mode of transport for my dirty clothes.

I second Away. My bags take a beating and travel a lot and that is the only one that's held up with no problem.

I've got an RTIC duffle that's very durable and lightweight if you want a duffle bag.

ETA: I've also had great success with finding stuff at Kohls, Ross, etc. I've got one wheeled suit case that's over ten years old thats been rock solid.

If you don't want to break the bank, I'd go Samsonite Solyte DLX Softside...

I have a Thule carry on roller that I love. I can pack an amazing amount of stuff in it, especially soft stuff with the stuffer piece. I don't know what to call it, but it is the size of the suitcase and has two "buckles" on each end that latch onto a "toothed" strap, and I can push down on the stuffer, it latches to the straps and bites down to stuff the clothes in the suitcase. It's hard to explain, but it's awesome.

The rollers are very smooth. The handles are solid. I've been very happy so far, but not as many miles as others have stated.

Check out Monos. Comparable to Away but a little different. My wife has had Away and their customer service has been awesome. When she had the shell crack they replaced it with no questions. I got Monos recently after many years of Samsonite and have been happy with it so far.

AWAY lifetime warranty (others have this as well) is nice. Daughters 6 year old bag beat to crap. Liner ripped and one of the inside zippers broke. Contacted customer service via text. Sent pic of damage and within 5 min got reply "sending a new bag, what color do you want?" Cheaper than Briggs, Tumi etc.

Just got my gf a Beis carry on and so far have been very impressed with it. Can't comment on longevity yet but the price to features ratio is solid.

I have a B&R checked bag that is a beast.

Ive had the Briggs and Riley carry on that has a garment compartment for probably 11 or 12 years now. I love it. Makes it really easy to take the clothes out (on the hangers) and hang them up when I get to the hotel. Not going to hold multiple suits or anything, but nice for a jacket and a few shirts and pants.

My wife has the away carry on and she likes it. No complaints. But, oddly enough, when we travel together her clothes take up half of my garment compartments capacity……

Look at what most of the flight crews carry, Travelpro.

This is the answer, they use theirs more than any and it's what they all seem to use.

That said, our whole family has Timbuk2 Co-Pilot medium size rollers, only two wheels but they're skating wheels and roll awesome.

I used to feel this way, but not so sure anymore.

Don't get me wrong, it's up there with the best bags. I'd put it with the tumi's, b&r, etc. But many potential reasons why it's the most used among travel crews, and not necessarily just because it's the best.

Mainly, I'd wager their marketing team just approaches every airline very aggressively at good discounts to get them to use it. Then, everyone on every message board just says what you said. But comparing a travel pro at a 25% discount to a tumi is a little different of a value proposition then comparing both at full price.

Also, they never check their bags. They aren't necessarily put through the abuse of a lot of luggage even though it's used more often.

Your last point is a good one I didn't consider.

Generally flight crews have multiple options for decently discounted luggage, but you are right, it's a style and marketed heavily. With that said, they are well designed and have taken a punishment better than any other bag I've carried. OP asked for carry on bag, that's what their flagship lines were built for. Everything dies in the cargo hold.

Anyone have a recommendation for a smaller carryon? I have a great Rimowa carryon that was a present but is bigger than I need if just an overnight trip. I hopped up to Dallas the other day and just took a duffle for one night. Wish I had taken a small roller. I'd also like to get my kids their own carryons (esp because then my son would stop WAnting to use mine) that I could then use theirs for a quick trip.

I've had good luck with Samsonite and Rockland from Amazon. I've had them several years and average about 6 flights a year. They're cheap enough that it won't be s big loss when they break.

It should be noted re: TravelPro, the bags you commonly see flight crews use only recently started being sold to the general public (and it's actually not the really real version). They sell something similar in a consumer line but it has some drawbacks:

My wife got a set of TravelPro bags back around 2000 (and no, she was not flight crew). I have been rather unimpressed with how they held up compared to some others we have gotten over the years. The nylon seems to wear pretty fast and the handles/wheels/feet, etc. just seem to come apart faster than I would have expected given the relatively low travel volume they were used for.

Another vote for Away. Aside from looking good, they are well built and stand up to abuse. I like the internal compression, strong zippers, and integrated laundry bag. The wheels are great and everything has held up well over time. My wife and I l have a the larger carry on, medium, and large. We've had the carry-ons since 2016 and they still work (and look great).

Away has a brick and mortar store in Dallas off Knox if you want to check em out in person first.

I did 50k+ miles a year traveling for work for many years. My London Fog bag has never failed me. Not a typical luggage brand and probably outsourced to someone else - but it stands out among the sea of black bags and has really held up over the years. If something breaks on it I'll repair it before I replace it

If you are going for a roller carry, there are tons of acceptable options. The beefier the wheel (and better quality) is what to look for. First thing that typically goes rendering the bag useless.
