Cafe Fiore is the Aggie owned Italian place. Make reservations NOW.

It's tiny but awesome experience.

Like German food? HimmelHaus right next to California side ski base.

Food is very good and beer is great. Cool atmosphere as well.

the brewery right across from Lake Tahoe Resort and Hotel is really good - Stateline Brewery and Restaurant. Decent food and nice brew selection - self seating in the bar. It's in the basement but is a huge space.

Also, it has the most extensive whiskey list I've ever seen... as in every bottle of Pappy, EH Taylor, Weller, etc. OFC shots for $750!

Best HH/food is this asian place called Kalani. $6-8 apps that were delicious and great drink specials. You have to sit in the bar though... it goes until 7 or 630 I think.

Base camp pizza is good but always packed.

A lot of people go to McP's Taphouse and grill.

These are all places right near the Gondola, assuming you're staying right around there. If you keep going southwest on 50, your options change.

I would DEFINITELY do Himmel Haus and Cafe Fiore. I'm a sucker for litres of german beer.

Try and play golf at Edgewood for that "south lake tahoe celebrity experience"

Got a tee time at Edgewood. Very tough to get a tee time

Looks like Cafe Fiore is all booked up already.

For sure we will go to Himmelhaus and some of the others you recommend. Thanks!

I assuming you're going pretty soon? floating the Truckee could be fun too but may be too cold this early in Summer.

Camp Richardson can be fun, head over there and rent a bicycle and ride around. Awesome hiking - do Mt. Tallac for a view of the lake.

We took the gondola up and did some hiking up there and the zipline. Awesome views of the lake from the top of Heavenly.

Good luck at Edgewood... I played there before I was serious about golf (still not much better). Don't get upset if you shoot 90+ - the greens are stupid tricky.

I did birdie 17 though, right on the lake!

Any advice on driving down to South Lake Tahoe from Reno on a Friday evening?

I'm guessing traffic may be bad with tourists flooding in at that time.

Go through Carson City or take a different route?

Nah traffic is fine. It's interstate the whole way.

Most traffic is coming from the Bay Area I think.

If at night, take the interstate down to Carson City. Quick up and over.

If wanting a longer, more scenic route, go up and over Mt. Rose and cruise along the lake. You go through a few of the MANY little cities along Tahoe.

Any water sports or boat tours worth doing?

I saw that jet ski are available to rent. Not sure we want to get too wet given
the temps will be mid 60's.

Maybe some hiking trail recommendations if you have any?

Look up. Mt. Tallac is a good long hike. Or just take the gondola up and hike around the ski area.

Last I went there in the summer was late July/early August and that lake is still frigid. You'll want to be in a wetsuit.

You can maybe float the Truckee river.

There are plenty of boat cruises and stuff - I'd just Google.

We actually white water rafted the American river - starts around tahoe and flows down to the pacific. AWESOME full day raft trip but you meet in Auburn around 8am (so you leave Tahoe around 630AM) and don't get home until maybe 630-7. Was such a blast.

When are you going? If in the next couple weeks, just be aware that the Broken Arrow Sky Race is next weekend and Western States Endurance Run is the following. Will be quite a number of people in the area for both of those.

We went the weekend before Memorial Day weekend, such an impressive place.

I'll second the suggestions for Cafe Fiore, Basecamp Pizza, and Stateline Brewery, all great options.

We stayed at Edgewood in May of 2019. While we didn't play the course, we walked the whole course. It was snowing in May while we walked it and we were the only two people on the course. It was pretty magical.

The Edgewood Restaurant is pretty good and has amazing views of the Lake. Helen Mirren sat at the table down right in front of us while we were there.

The hotel/resort itself is badass. However, I just priced it for August and it was $1,200 per night now. Too much for our blood these days.
