Last one had a tire blowout just as I was arriving at departure gate for a 10-day trip to UK. Perfect timing.

Current one is ~23" tall and I was able to pack for 10 days, including a suit and extra slacks, jeans, etc. Seems up to 24" may be acceptable to fit in those pre-trip bins for passing through security.

I prefer hard case that's expandable.

What's the recommendation?

The "official" max dimensions for US carry on are 9"x14"x22". So be careful with something 24"

We have two that we just love. A 22 inch Briggs and Riley. Expensive but 300k miles and a workhorse. Replaced a wheel under warranty with no issues. A cheaper travel pro 21 inch that is great also. Not as durable but 1/3 the price.

If you are optimizing for space and durability, go with 2 wheels vs. spinners. The spinner wheels protrude so if you ever have to check it, they can snap off but more importantly, you lose roughly 2 inches of space from the interior.

If you go with the bigger bag, you will be forced to check it on many flights. Not worth the hassle for me as a frequent business traveler.. Also I only get spinners now, for someone that is traveling all the time, spinners save me tons of time and are much easier to navigate when trying to multitask through an airport. or hotel lobby.

I am a tumi fan. Will never buy a different suitcase, amazing quality and perfect for my needs. You can save money on other brands, but Tumi for life here.

My 23" with spinners that just konked out was perfect size. Think I'll head to Tumi and Samsonite outlets tonight.
