How long do you want to ignore this user?
Going on Thursday until Tuesday for both business and pleasure.

We will be staying in SLC and plan to go ski at either Nordic Valley or Beaver Mountain for one of the days we're there.

Antelope Island is on our list as well.

Any restaurant recs? Good spot to go have a few beers?

Where should I catch the Dallas Cowboys game on Sunday? (If you'll be in Rome, don't bother).

Any other must see or must do? I'm not Mormon but would like to go see the big LDS temple.

Usually people will ask what we like to do- so: drinking, outdoor activities like hiking or tours, sightseeing, etc. nothing hyper specific.

Thanks!

Log Haven for dinner. Nice restaurant, beautiful setting, up in a canyon.

Squatters Pub for some beers. Plenty of others around, too.

Temple Square is nice to walk around and visit. They probably don't have the Christmas lights up anymore, but if they do, it's beautiful.

Red Iguana - try to go to original location. I enjoyed touring Temple Square.

SLC resident here.

The temple is under massive renovation so really can't tour that area. You can still see it but from outside fences.

Squatters is meh. The best brewery in town is TF Brewing. It wins lots of awards and is my go-to a couple times per week. All the tap beer is 5% as it's the highest percentage draught you can serve in Utah. Their canned beer is the tits and is higher point. Ferda was their first and it's a classic IPA and delicious. All beers come in 16oz cans so watch the percentages because a high point one will get ya feeling nice. Especially the Jesse Delmar which is seasonal and hasn't been there in 2 years. Aged in High West Whiskey barrels. It's an Imperial Stout. 12%. And one of the best beers I've ever had. I'd say it's a must. Shades Brewing just opened a new space downtown that's supposed to be cool. They have all kinds of funky beers. If you're into flavors and sours this is the place hands down.

Another one of my favorite places in town is Under Current. It's behind the restaurant called Current and is their 21 and up bar. The cocktails there are the best in town...very high level and creative. And they serve bites in there as well and the bar is beautiful. I'd try it out for sure. Hard to believe but there are lots and lots of amazing craft cocktail bars in this city. Other of my favorites are Water Witch, Alibi, Copper Common, and Bar X (shares a space with Beer Bar which is also a great place for different beer choses from around the country and both of these bars are owned by Ty Burrell from Modern Family...he makes appearances from time to time.

If you want a fancy and delicious dinner from a well respected local chef, then try Oquirrh. I also love White Horse Tavern and Bodega the latter of which is located in a basement in a speakeasy type situation. Great food. Both of these places are on Main a few doors down from each other. Oh, and White Horse is next door to Whiskey Street. Same owners. Whiskey Street has an enormous amount of whiskey selections from across the world.

Caputo's downtown has great sandwiches. My favorite is the Old School...I ask for an extra side of oil and vinegar to dip it in. You can browse the grocery section too. This is an SLC staple and brilliantly curated products from all over the world. Their chocolate selection is great! And if you like making your own cocktails at home they have a big selection of different bitters too.

Pretty Bird is the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. And I've had the ones in Nashville. The owner has beaten Bobby Flay twice if that tells you anything. Once on Iron Chef and again on Beat Bobby Flay. I love it. Only open Wed-Sat downtown right now. Another new location over in Sugar House area is open 7 days/week.

Have fun. It's a great city and it's growing like crazy. The secret is getting out.

Edit:
Added map of a trail right behind downtown that I hike often. It has great views of the city...right now there is a bit of an inversion so the views might not be as good as they could be but you can get the general idea. You can go up as much or as little as you want. Takes maybe 10-15 minutes to get to the first views of the valley. The weather looks pretty mild over the weekend so if you want to get a little hike in this is easy and convenient.

Bars to watch football games. Probably The Green Pig and a brand new fancier sports bar just opened up in The Gateway called Flanker. Haven't been and haven't heard much about it so I can't say whether it's good or bad. Another nothing special sports bar is Legends. If you're strictly looking for a place to watch football with basic food and beer this is probably it.

Ben, add Red Rock Brewing Company for excellent food and in-house crafted beers along with the Avenues Proper. Red Rock's Reuben is my favorite but they have excellent daily specials. If you like Middle Eastern, Mazza at 15th South and 15th East is an excellent choice for Lebanese ( call ahead ). For Mexican food, Red Iguana with two locations is the classic. It isn't Tex-Mex: it's regional cuisine from the state of Oaxaca.

Red Iguana is surprisingly good. Spent quite a bit of time out in SLC for work.

Last time I was in SLC, I tried a couple of places that I had not been to before.

Caffe Molise near downtown hosted a dinner for our vendor on their big outdoor patio. I had the pork tenderloin with figs and it was really good. Nice wine selection.

The Bayou (south of downtown) is a decent cajun place with a huge beer selection and lots of TVs.

Just what the doctor ordered …..

As a LOLfat, I appreciated the recommendation to get the vinegar and oil to dip it in. Today's a rushed day and we both have work commitments so this was a great quick lunch. Girlfriend loved browsing the grocery section.

SkiMo fry sauce, yes or no? Also what's your take on Crown burgers, been going there for 25 year and just like it for some reason.

Thanks everyone for the recs. Leaving tomorrow unfortunately. So I'll name some of the places we went that were recommended here:

Caputos - already stated

Copper Onion - wow that was a great dinner and probably our favorite spot we ate at. Had drinks at Copper Common after

Red Rock Brewing

Epic Brewing

TF Brewing

Green Pig and Legends for football and beer.

Cafe Trio - awesome spot I never would've otherwise found.

White Horse Tavern - awesome and swanky. Whiskey Street too. Stumbled into Main Street Keys waiting for our table for dueling pianos. Cool, but the people rhat work there are dbags.

We did try Crown Burger (another Utah friend mentioned it). Tasty I guess, but made me feel like **** for hours after haha.

Other things we did - Antelope island was an awesome way to spend a few hours. Saw 9 Buffalo!

Skied at Nordic Valley in Eden. Only an hour from SLC. it was great.

Walked around the LDS area.

Park City for an afternoon/evening - dinner at High West Distillery and Salloon was worth the drive alone.

Hoping I can sneak in that trail Skiimo recommended above before I gotta head to the airport.

I'm probably forgetting some stuff but thanks everyone! Fun town.

Did you go out to the actual distillery or the boutique they have in town?

I think the Epic brewing taproom is a neat thing to do. It's a pretty good walk from downtown.

Squatters is my go-to. I really enjoy being able to try a bunch of stuff with 10-12 oz pours all under 4-5%. It's nice not feeling like garbage after a night on the town.

If you're up by Woods Cross, I went to Legers Deli one time and it was delicious.
