SLC resident here.
The temple is under massive renovation so really can't tour that area. You can still see it but from outside fences.
Squatters is meh. The best brewery in town is TF Brewing. It wins lots of awards and is my go-to a couple times per week. All the tap beer is 5% as it's the highest percentage draught you can serve in Utah. Their canned beer is the tits and is higher point. Ferda was their first and it's a classic IPA and delicious. All beers come in 16oz cans so watch the percentages because a high point one will get ya feeling nice. Especially the Jesse Delmar which is seasonal and hasn't been there in 2 years. Aged in High West Whiskey barrels. It's an Imperial Stout. 12%. And one of the best beers I've ever had. I'd say it's a must. Shades Brewing just opened a new space downtown that's supposed to be cool. They have all kinds of funky beers. If you're into flavors and sours this is the place hands down.
Another one of my favorite places in town is Under Current. It's behind the restaurant called Current and is their 21 and up bar. The cocktails there are the best in town...very high level and creative. And they serve bites in there as well and the bar is beautiful. I'd try it out for sure. Hard to believe but there are lots and lots of amazing craft cocktail bars in this city. Other of my favorites are Water Witch, Alibi, Copper Common, and Bar X (shares a space with Beer Bar which is also a great place for different beer choses from around the country and both of these bars are owned by Ty Burrell from Modern Family...he makes appearances from time to time.
If you want a fancy and delicious dinner from a well respected local chef, then try Oquirrh. I also love White Horse Tavern and Bodega the latter of which is located in a basement in a speakeasy type situation. Great food. Both of these places are on Main a few doors down from each other. Oh, and White Horse is next door to Whiskey Street. Same owners. Whiskey Street has an enormous amount of whiskey selections from across the world.
Caputo's downtown has great sandwiches. My favorite is the Old School...I ask for an extra side of oil and vinegar to dip it in. You can browse the grocery section too. This is an SLC staple and brilliantly curated products from all over the world. Their chocolate selection is great! And if you like making your own cocktails at home they have a big selection of different bitters too.
Pretty Bird is the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. And I've had the ones in Nashville. The owner has beaten Bobby Flay twice if that tells you anything. Once on Iron Chef and again on Beat Bobby Flay. I love it. Only open Wed-Sat downtown right now. Another new location over in Sugar House area is open 7 days/week.
Have fun. It's a great city and it's growing like crazy. The secret is getting out.
Edit:
Added map of a trail right behind downtown that I hike often. It has great views of the city...right now there is a bit of an inversion so the views might not be as good as they could be but you can get the general idea. You can go up as much or as little as you want. Takes maybe 10-15 minutes to get to the first views of the valley. The weather looks pretty mild over the weekend so if you want to get a little hike in this is easy and convenient.
Bars to watch football games. Probably The Green Pig and a brand new fancier sports bar just opened up in The Gateway called Flanker. Haven't been and haven't heard much about it so I can't say whether it's good or bad. Another nothing special sports bar is Legends. If you're strictly looking for a place to watch football with basic food and beer this is probably it.
