Potentially silly question regarding baggage check.

We are flying on AA from Abilene to Jamaica this week. It is under one itinerary. We have a stop in Dallas and then Miami.

The AA flight app shows that we land at gate B something and then baggage shows at B30.

We have never departed Abilene for an international flight. Do we have to re-check bags when connecting domestically from Abilene to Dallas? Will we have to leave the terminal or is there a simpler way this happens? We only have a short layover in Dallas.

Anyone with any insight? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Maybe the B30 bag area is for bags that are check when boarding the plane in Abilene? Checked baggage will continue on its way?

Never flown from Abilene, but your bags should be checked all the way through.

Curious where you are staying and how your trip goes.

I would recommend trying to carry on and not check bags if possible. My family went for 7 days to the DR and our bags didn't make it on the flight from Miami to DR. We had a 1.5hr layover in Miami from DFW and they didn't make it in time. From what I was told baggage service is slow and fewer people working. Bags showed up 27hrs later to our resort.

And on the way back from Jamaica, you will have to get them and recheck if you stop in Miami. Then go back through security. We were running the entire time to make our connection back to DFW. Just my experience and we will not check bags again if we can avoid it

I do not recall that full experience when we were coming back from St. Lucia in April.

Yes you had to "recheck" and go through "security", but it was not the normal lines. All internal.

Your bags in Abilene should be tagged to your final destination. Coming back you will have to go thru internal recheck procedures. You won't be with the external folks coming to the airport.

With that many connections, Carry-on. 1 roller each and then a backpack each. Should be PLENTY of space.

Bring back as much Jamaican Rum Cream as you can carry.

Update.

Bag went all the way through when checked in Abilene. However, we had two broken planes and missed our connecting flight and were late one full day to the resort.

The carry on recommendations work for me, but not for the wife.

Bring back all the 100% Blue Mountain coffee beans you can. That's the best coffee we're ever had and you can't buy it in the US. Heck, if you bring some back, I'll buy some from you if you're around Houston.
