Any opinions on Montreaux? I'm trying to cut down on the different places we're staying.

We have Montreaux scheduled between the Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen/Grindelwald area and Zermatt.

There doesn't seem to be a whole ton to do in Montreux, should I add an extra day in Zermatt or somewhere instead?
In Montreux, there is Castle Chillon which takes about one half day. There is also taking a boat over to France or

Lausanne for evening dinner.

What about a place like Bern?
Bern itself is good for about 1.5 days. I love Bern and lived there 4 years.

We're both in solid shape. We did New Zealand last year and did most of the big hikes, some being 4+ hours to the top of the mountain, and then the same back down.

I think my wife would prefer some more leisurely hikes this go-around but wouldn't shy away from a good hike if it's a must-do or super worth it
I have tons of hiking books on Switzerland. You are probably best hiking in Berner Oberland or Graubuenden
(St. Moritz) area. If you want, I can look up some of the hikes. Are you planning on taking the Glacier Express?

By the way, St. Moritz is really expensive. You can stay in one of the neighboring towns for much less like Pontresina
I'll take you up on hiking ideas in the Lauterbrunnen/Grindelwald area. Hows Covid affected Switzerland so far?

Unfortunately there are over 1000 cases now, but hopefully good weather will help.

That sounds pretty cool.

Just looking at it and it looks like there are ferries between Lausanne and Evian? Is that what you're referring to? Any suggestions on places to eat in the area?

Yes. The travel to Evian and Lausanne is on the train schedule even though it is in fact a boat.

I can ask my colleagues about restaurants in Lausanne. In Evian, I really don't know to be honest.

From what I can see, Yvoire looks like the nicest place to visit on the French side.

Fall is a good time to come up until about the 3rd week of October. End of June is also good, but then it starts getting hot.

End of June is better if you can swing it.

Just got back yesterday after a week there. Had a great time. Couple of rainy days but we lucked out pretty good weather wise.

Just got back this weekend. Had to deal with the refusal to accept CDC vax cards in favor of Swiss Issued cards starting Monday a week ago, partly though the trip. Eventually found a pharmacy that could produce the Swiss one based on the CDC card, but then last Monday they dropped the need for their version. Kind of a mess and hassle, but I suspect the tourist industry raised such a stink, they rescinded the order in 7 days.

The casino in Interlocken would not accept the CDC card even after the government switched back.

St. Moritz we stumbled on a Sotheby's car auction at the hotel and they sold 20 cars for about 20 million CH.

What makes the end of June better is simple. Most of the snow is melted by then, and it makes for better
hiking. Also, you can spend the night in Mountain huts or Htten.

Also, September makes nice hiking weather as schendeler has posted in pics.

I went all around Switzerland in early to mid June a few years ago. It was still cold in the mornings and a few hiking trails were closed due to snow. By the time I left, everything was open for summer. In mid May there would things still closed for bc of shoulder season (hikes, tourist restaurants, etc).

Former resident of Switzerland. Spend a full day in Zurich. Interlaken is fun to visit if you like to windsurf / sail / kiteboard. If you are not doing any of those activities I would axe a day. Changing locations every two nights is insane for a country like Switzerland. Pick hubs like others suggest. There is really no bad options as long as the city has a rail and more than 1 restaurant. Have fun, get ready to turn out your pockets!
We did canyoning while in Interlaken and it was awesome. Definitely a top experience for me. But it did definitely seem more of an adventure/outdoor type destination. They did have a distillery and I really enjoyed their whiskey.

We just got back from our trip. We were supposed to go in September 2020, but Covid. We just got back and it was trusty amazing. Switzerland is such a beautiful country, I could have spent months there easily. Highly recommend.

Apparently the clouds that appear each day around the Matterhorn is from all the pots of water boiling for spaghetti next door in Italy.

I would stay at least another day in Grindelwald. Hike the Eiger Trail. Have drinks on deck at Avacado Bar with the Eiger Right behind you.

You could make Grindelwald a homebase and hit up Wengen and Lauterbrunnen.

Don't do Bern.

We ended up doing 1 night in Zurich, 3 in Lucerne, 4 in Grindelwald, 2 in Montreux, 2 in Zermatt, 2 in St. Moritz and back for 1 in Zurich before flying out. I thought it worked well. We were able to get to a bunch of places from those home bases.

I really loved Switzerland and enjoyed 2 weeks there, but could have easily spent more. Or you could spend less time and also add in other countries from Switzerland too if you'd rather

If you do multiple Switzerland places, the Swiss travel pass was great.

If you care - they have entry requirements on Covid shots but we were never checked anywhere, and nobody wore masks anywhere

I'm planning 3-4 nights in Switzerland in July with the fam. Looking for some nice hikes but nothing terribly strenuous. Was thinking Mrren (been there before) or Grindelwald. Any other spots I should be considering? We will have a rental car.

Switzerland remains the most beautiful/scenic country I have been fortunate to travel. The Swiss Riviera, and particularly Montreaux, is where a majority of my Swiss travel experiences have derived, so I am partial. Lots of things to do and see. Chillon Castle, The Jazz Festival in July, Geneva a short train ride away, etc.

Switzerland is such a magical place. I'd imagine it's the closest thing to Heaven on earth. We flew into Zurich last June (End of June)

Actually saw Cortez and Camarillo at the airport before we departed. Held back on talking **** about Schloss and just congratulated them on a great season.

Anyways, we took the train from Zurich to Lucerne. Spent 3 nights there doing various hikes (Stoos Ridge was spectacular) from there we took the train down to Lenk im Simmental which was a very nice small village in a valley. Spent 2 nights there. From there we went to Interlaken and hiked grindelwald, Gimmelwald, Mrren, First.
