I'm surprised there aren't more ppl putting DFW on their best of list. There isn't a major domestic airport that you can get into and out of more easily. Maybe not the most glamorous option for a long layover, but that wasn't the question. As a regular business traveler, I love that I leave my home in Dallas 90 minutes before my flight and will still be at my gate with time to spare.

Besides Incheon and Singapore already mentioned, I'd put Hong Kong in the same class and Narita not far behind them.

Madrid was very nice - only connected, but I remember it fondly.

Schipol has already been mentioned, but its great.

Hobby and Love are both incredibly easy and efficient, especially Love.

On the bad list - LaGuardia, Miami, Delhi, Tampa, CDG - all for different reasons, but none that I'm thrilled to be flying to/from/through.
Agree on DFW actually. Their system of having many small security checkpoints is great and innovative. Unlike Denver where it bottlenecks like crazy. I think the reason I didnt include DFW on my list is: 1) I hate American Airlines, and 2) DFW may as well be a city it's so massive. But you have pretty much endless options for destinations there, which is nice.

Oh yes I should've included Madrid. That airport is sick.

Haven't seen anyone mention Oslo Gardermoen (OSL) yet. Wonderful airport in every respect.

Also have been through Ahmedabad - agree it's a pit. The business class lounge was laughably bad. But all airports in India are pretty terrible - hated having to use the bathroom in BLR - toxic in there. Changi was a god send after being in BLR and Ahmedabad - shower at the transit lounge was a life saver.

Incheon is good. I actually like Haneda more than Narita.

Used to hate SFO but like IAH they've made a lot of improvements. Still prefer flying out of SJC though.

New one for me is Reno - not the greatest amenities but so dang easy to get in and out of.

Agree with you on DFW. What a nice airport.

Disagree on Tampa. Heading there next week and it's an airport I actually enjoy flying in and out of. The only bummer was when they moved the rental car facility.

I'll add El Paso as another that's very quick to get in and out of. Bigger than airports like Midland and Amarillo, but you're still through it (and to your rental car) in a flash.

For connections LHR is one of the worst. Too busy and changing terminal is a huge pain.

Totally agree. It's a pain in the butt even if you're flying in and out of the same terminal. It's the only airport where I've ended up literally running to my gate like you see in the movies, and not because connections were tight but because the process was so slow and convoluted.

Agree also with the comments on DFW and the multiple checkpoints. I'm retired and don't fly out of there much anymore but never had any real issues with bad lines. Being able to move from terminal to terminal on the tram without leaving security is a plus also.

Definitely prefer SJC to SFO, but united SFO isn't bad at all... and they're both 1 million times better than OAK.

what is great about Munich is that there is never any guesswork for anything. Even the baggage carousel signs tell you when your luggage is coming. Very German.

Plus centurion lounge, even though it's always a **** show in there, surprised they haven't found a bigger location like they did at DFW

SFO is is awful for no other reason than it takes forever to get to or from the rental car center on the train (assuming the train is running which is no guarantee). It is also a huge pain to connect between terminals.

MCO's lines to get to security are horrible. It's the main reason I decided to get Clear. Made it SO much easier last week.

I also hated Hong Kong. I swear I must have walked 2 miles to make my connection. I had a 1 hr 40 min layover and didn't even have time to go hang out in a lounge.

I will also add yeah Bangalore was really nice. Chennai's international terminal is terrible. Reminds me of an old DMV.

Best:
DFW and DAL are great
HOU is easy
SMF is great, reminds me a lot of DAL
PBI
BNA is easy
I don't mind TUL, but needs more than just a single bar that closes at 7:00, but it's an easy in/out.

Worst:
MIA - never had a good experience here
FLL - not necessarily the airport, but it's dominated by crocs and cargo short and straw hat types on their annual once only flight to a cruise ship
SFO - rental car situation sucks
PLS - hot, 2nd floor "waiting area" is terrible
OAK - just seems dirty

I will say that I do love CRP now that I live here.

It's tiny (5 gates), so checking bags and getting through security is a breeze. And the bar is never packed.

Also, POP now that I have lounge access there.

SXM was a breeze the several times I was there before. I'll see how it's doing after the hurricane when I go there over Christmas.

Best Airport (Because it's 8 minutes from my home and only has 12 gates)...TYS (Knoxville)
Worst (due to ridiculously short connection times)...CLT (Charlotte/Douglas)

Worst is KCI. Without a doubt. Not bad flying in, but flying out sucks donkey balls. EVERY TIME I've gone through there to fly home, I get pulled aside and hassled. I've flown through pretty much every major airport in the US and never had a problem. There, it's time to visually check my bag or swab my hands.

Best
MFR- Medford, Oregon.
Biased since I live here, but it's super easy to get in and out of because of how small it is. It's also far enough away from PDX/San Fran that they can justify directs to Denver, SLC, LAX, PHX, and supposedly DFW and ORD next June.
SEA and PDX are my favorites to have a layover in since you get good beer bars.

Worst
I ****ing hate LAX.

Out of "large-ish" sized western airports, I like Charlotte.

Its always an easy in and out, and easy to get around once past security. Its close to downtown, which is nice.

I like DFW, I think its a really easy place to get to and around considering just how busy it is, but I admit I might be biased for the hometown airport.

LAX is the absolute suck.

I agree that DFW is good. Doesn't matter which terminal you land in, it's a short Skylink trip to wherever you need to be. Security is generally pretty quick, too, considering how many people go through it.

Bad: Kansas City. Great pre-TSA, but the shallow circular design for the three terminals is horrible for the security required now. The secured areas are tight on space. I think they are rebuilding the terminals one by one.

Mexico City is short on gates and overcrowded.

Other than that I'm not a big critic of airports. In general, the newer ones are more spacious and have more amenities available than the older ones. HOU used to be a glorified bus terminal until the new one, which is great, was built.

They're just making it one big terminal at KC. It took forever to get approved because so many love to play how late can I get to the airport and make my flight. Crazy convenient if your flights on time, he'll if it's delayed. The old twa hub layout was made brutal by 9/11 security needs.

You're not gonna kill this buzz, we'll deal with Newark on the 20th.

Yeah MCI was the worst in the country post 9/11, basically no amenities once in the secure area. It's been a long time since I've been there but sounds like they've improved.

These are total homer picks since it's the last two places I've lived, but MSP is wonderful and OKC is easy and nice for a mid sized non hub facility.

Add my name to the list of LAX haters, we'll see how Delta's new terminal turns out.

Incheon was the best airport I've flown in/out of. So many amenities.

Worst: Newark, LAX.
The location of the San Diego airport is great, but flying out of the Southwest terminal is HORRIBLE. There's like a 3:1 person:chair ratio. PEople just clog the concourse.

I don't understand why Atlanta gets so much hate? For the amount of people that come through there, it's always been very efficient for me. It's clean and has some great restaurant options.
You left out the most maddening thing about SAN...there are two separate security areas. So, you might land in one gate and then have to go back through security again for a gate that practically next door. Drove me bonkers the first time I flew through there. It's like the old Hobby but worse because it's such a small footprint.

Also, for those who mentioned MCI that is the weirdest damn airport layout I've ever experienced. The entire terminal is about 10 feet deep so when 9/11 happened and they beefed up security it took about 8 feet of that depth. Just bizarre.

You're right. I don't know how I could forget to mention that. I had to do that last time I flew out of San Diego, it's just silly.

Newark is fine if you're just connecting and don't leave security and are flying United.

Newark is terrible if you're visiting NYC.

Newark is the tits if you're laying over and have access to the Polaris lounge. 4 hour layover on the way to Europe recently was really nice - enough time to close my eyes in a quiet room for an hour, take a shower, eat, and get a gentle preflight champagne buzz going.

seems like every time I've ever flown through ORD flights have been delayed/canceled, either snow storms in the winter or thunderstorms in the summer.

I don't get why Denver gets the love it does. I live here and flying in/out of the airport is a pain. everyone gets funneled thru the same passageways. I prefer the separate terminals of DFW. Also the airport might as well be in Kansas.

I'll say the terminal you fly out of can really change airport experiences. LAX is a pain, but the international terminal is really nice.

As a Denver consultant who flies out weekly agreed. It's far away, and takes forever to get from the plane out to car areas. This wasted time sucks when you do it weekly.
I still think the airport itself is great. But yes it's way out there and you have to arrive super early because you never know how long things might take there. The security lines at DIA can truly be ridiculous. And the light rail to downtown is nice but it still takes a good 45 minutes.
Denver Sucks

I am going to be that guy and say I don't think you have visited many airports or don't travel that much if you are saying you like Denver. Airport is in the middle of nowhere, the security lines are ridiculous especially with the amount of tourists that go through the airport at certain times, terminals are to narrow and areas are way too congested, weather causes delays all the time summer and winter.

From airport only standpoint, prefer the openness to the renovated areas of Houston, Dallas and many other airports over Denver anytime. And you only have the option to walk to A gates, cannot walk to B & C no matter what.

Even their food options often push people into the walking paths and making areas feel more congested.

Then returning, baggage claim and getting to rental car or to parking is a pain in the butt. And that does not even tack on the journey you then need to take on to get home or get to your hotel.
