Looking for hotel and or B&B recommendations for a 3 day weekend stay in Charleston, SC.

I am reviewing places on the Internet, but would like to hear from people who have actually stayed there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many nice places. We like Charleston Place which is perfect location and nice. If you are looking for something not center of Charleston or golfing/spa/beach look into The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island.

Edit: Charleston Place is now part of Belmond so it may be listed as Belmond Charleston as a poster listed below. Same place.

We stayed at The Vendeu. Rooms were a little small, but it is a cool hip hotel. It also has the rooftop bar which is fun to hang out in the evenings on. Highly recommend the place. Location was wonderful.

Stayed at the Belmond Charleston last September and it was great and perfectly located to shopping and restaurants. If you're looking more for off the beaten path though I would echo the above poster and venture out to Kiawah...that's where the beauty is.

If you have no interest in golf don't stay on Kiawah. However, if you have a rent care do drive out to the island and check it out. It's gated, but you can tel the guard your headed in for dinner, etc and they will let you go.

Go eat a meal and have a drink or two at the Ocean Course clubhouse. The views their are top notch and the drive from Charleston is beautiful. Low Country at its finest. Not to mention once you enter the gates of Kiawah it goes up another level with the beauty and all of the gorgeous houses. If I was rich I'd move there in a heartbeat. My wife and I fell in love with the island and are planning on going back this winter.

Charleston was great. We went in October and weather was great. Food is OUTSTANDING plenty of places to eat. With just a little research you shouldn't have a bad meal. Hit up Rainbow Row and take a walking tour to get acquainted with the historic district. We stayed at a brand new hotel at the time Grand Boeheimian just down the block from the historic district
Funk quirky and modern. Liked it al lot and got a great deal during opening. Probably more expensive now. Will give food recs if interested

Here was our trip last time in terms of what we ranked them

1. 82 Queen. She crab soup was top notch beautiful surroundings on patio
2. Muse. Recommended during a wine creating class we took at our hotel. Loved the lamb chops
3. Fleet Landing. Seafood with a decent view. Had lunch
4. Hominy Grill. One of the main ones people have heard about casual but shrimp and grits and Veggies and cornbread
5. Magnolia. Fried chicken was good. Not much else was memorable
6. High Cotton. Went for a jazz brunch Even with reservation seating we were put too far away. Breakfast items were basic and overpriced IMO but table next to us got some French Toast thing that looked good.

Austin County Ag will let you know about Blossom and it is on our list next time we go. I doubt we will even try anything we have already done in terms of food places because so many solid options. Would eat at each of the top five from my list numerous times if we lived there. If we go back only place I would want to hit again with all the other options is 82 Queen for soup and atmosphere but only if a lot of the places like FIG aren't available

yes Blossom was the best meal I've ever ate. I wrote this in another thread.......poogans porch was very good, but my best meal of the trip was at Blossom. Blackend Catfish served over shrimp and grits with a pimento cheese sauce on top. **** that was good. Your seriously can't go wrong at any of the places. It is way harder to find a good meal compared to an excellent one.

Fulton Lane Inn right on King St. Great location. Hominy Grill has closed or is closing very soon. For Seafood hit up The Ordinary. Melfi's for Italian.

We stayed at Mills House by Wyndham. We loved it as it was walking distance to where we wanted to hang out and eat. It was very nice; however, due to its age, rooms were a touch on the small side. We'd definitely be interested in staying there again though.

Wentworth Mansion is where we stayed and the rooms are huge and location is fantastic!

Also....must go to Halls Chophouse for dinner or weekend brunch. Out of this world food!

We just got back from Charleston. We stayed at the Fulton Lane Inn. It is on King St and walking distance to all of downtown. We were lucky enough to get into Hominy Grill before it closes.

Always stay at the Mills House. Like that little bar up front too- where I first had the HW Double Rye.

Find some time to walk the shops at UpperKing and do the ferry to Ft Sumter. Otherwise I think it looks pretty good

I always like to take a stroll through the cemetery at the Unitarian Church. It really is beautiful with all the plants and vegetation there. Can access off King St.

Check out Ansonborough Inn. I lived in Charleston for 17 years. Always put clients there. It's downtown off East Bay near everything.

My wife and I also stayed at The Vendue. We paid a lot of money, and the first night they stuck is in a crappy room in the annex (across the street). It wasn't what we paid for and the first day they couldn't move us. It was miserable. Tiny, nothing worked right, and worst of all it was loud as can be whenever anybody in the building flushed a toilet or showered. All. Night. Long.

They next day they moved us to the top floor of the main building and it was awesome.

The only restaurant that didn't meet expectations was Husk. Everything else was exceptional. Hall's Chophouse may be the best dining experience we've ever had.

I'm sure you'll enjoy your trip!
