Wife and I are looking at doing a quick late summer trip and Lake Tahoe is atop the list.

Any suggestions on where to stay? Is South or North preferred? Somewhere else hidden we should check out?

Right now I'm thinking of going the VRBO route in South Lake Tahoe so we can be close to food, shops, activities etc. but thought I'd ask here first.

We always stayed in South Lake Tahoe, for what it's worth.

We own a place in North Tahoe which is great. However South Lake Tahoe is where most of the action is because of the larger hotels and casinos.

Depends on what you want to do.

There still a good amount of restaurants and things to do up that way? To hell with cooking on vacation so we'd be out each night.

We'd like to do some hiking, spend time on the lake, and I may do a day of golf or fishing.

My husband and I have stayed at the Hyatt Regency and LOVED it. It's technically in Incline Village, but they have a couple of the suburbans at the hotel that will take you and pick you up wherever you want to go. It's right on the lake, with beautiful mountain views, several great restaurants and a little casino.

If you stay in incline village you can hike up the Flume Trail. It's such a cool trail and you have a great view of the lake. The only better view then that is by helicopter.

Although you can still access it at Southlake but you'll have a steep 4 mile climb that's pretty boring if hiking before you reach the good stuff. Incline Village is still steep at first but probably less boring.

South Lake. Hotels or VRBO. In the mountains or on the lake. TONS of hiking everywhere. Go Do mt tallac. Camp Richards is cool. Rent a boat or jetski

Float the truckee (just like floating the river here)

Golf all around. $5 craps tables in the summer time.
Take the gondola up heavenly and hike around.

Cannot float truckee this year. It is closed due to high water levels. Predicted to be closed al summer

Cafe Fiore. Great place to eat. One of our all-time favorites. Must get reservations because it is very small.
