I started a thread a few months ago asking about ski destinations and after doing some research I've got it narrowed down to Park City and Jackson Hole. I haven't been to either and am interested if anyone has information to help me choose. The group I'm going with is all experienced skiers, which is why I'm favoring Jackson Hole, but Park City is quite a bit cheaper.

Tl,dr: got any useful info?

Park City is a lot easier to get to but you are correct in favoring Jackson Hole for the better skiing.

I live within a couple of hours of both and I'd choose Jackson Hole any day. The JH valley is spectacular and offers so much more than just skiing (and the skiing is top notch). Park City is great for shopping, nightlife, and the skiing is great too. However, it feels a little more corporate if that makes sense while JH has a unique western vibe and everything around you is so rugged and wild.

Also, you might look into the Mountain Collective pass on sale for $399. It'll give you 2 day passes at Jackson and you could also swing down and ski two days at either Snowbird or Alta. It's a pretty easy drive between the two and you could fly into SLC for much cheaper.

Depends on what you mean easier to get to. United flies non stop from houston and Dallas to jackson in the winter. But it is going to be more expensive to fly to Jackson.

I've been to park city once and that was probably 10yrs ago and don't really remember much. But as long as you're a decent skier Jackson is the place to go. I went over new years this yr and the crowds were minimal.

We've been to Jackson hole in the summer and absolutely loved it. Want to go back for skiing, however, the wife and I have never skied before. I know it's better for experienced skiers, but is it that bad, i.e. would we really be that miserable trying to ski there?

Also travel a lot to park city and colorado so those are options as well. But we just loved the feel of Jackson hole more than the others.....

Thanks for the responses! I think this confirms my belief that Jackson is the way to go!

I've heard overcrowding can be a problem at Aspen?

There are really only 2 lifts at JH Mountain Resort that service green beginner runs. While you would be limited, you could still learn to ski and have enough runs to choose from to keep it fun. However, I will admit that there are better resorts to learn at such as Steamboat, Park CIty, and Winter Park.

I'd recommend you guys go to Park City if you frequent there quite a bit and work up to a level where you can ski blues reasonably well. At that point, you'll have a lot more fun once you visit JH since it will open up so much more of the mountain.
