does anyone have any experience swimming with the whale sharks off Isla Mujeres? I'm taking my son down there in July and am looking for reviews (good or bad). We may be looking to charter a private tour so need to make sure it is money well spent.

I've done it in Roatan and it was one of the coolest things I've ever done. I'm sure Isla Mujures would be very similar.

Anyone have experience doing the whale shark thing in Belize?

We did it at playa mujeras booked thru excellance...the company used the marina very close to epm.... The boats were small and it was a very long ride out there..... Take seasick pills, one girl on our boat got seasick and she kept throwing up and everytime she did it I was close to it because I do that whenever I see someone throw up I don't know why.... Other than that it was great on the way back they stop at the isle and serve fresh cerviche ...

In Belize we did the shark/ Ray deal not the whale sharks, the shark/ Ray deal was a good time

Ok, we did the whale shark excursion yesterday via Ceviche Tours on Isla Mujeres. It was incredible. There were more whale sharks than I could count. It was about 80 minutes to get out there and we swam for about two hours. The time flew by. We did go the private tour route and I think that's the way to go if you want to splurge. We got double to triple the time per person in the water than others. Once my wife and son tired out, it was just me jumping in for quite some time. Here's a pic I got of the guide.
