I assume Mexico counts because that is where almost all of the good AIs are.

One vote here for Zoetry Pariso de la Bonita.

But not if you want nightlife. It's all about class and relaxation.

my understanding is that St. Marten is considered as having some of the best food in the Caribbean. rent a place there, and just go out.

It all depends on how you define "good". Most AI I have been too the food is eatable. We typically will do breakfast and lunch at the resort and go to a restaurant for dinner. If you are a foodie I would recommend not staying at an AI or if you do realize that the food want be great.

I have been. They are better, but not 5 star by any means.

Sorry, but as good as five star dallas or Houston restaurants is a stretch. I've been to a few different couples only nice AI, and the food was great. I was very surprised by it actually. But I've also been to a few 5 star restaurants in Houston and it doesn't even compare.

Heck, if they were pumping out the food some of these restaurants are every night for free, they'd be bankrupt prompto.

You haven't been to the right all inclusives. If you go to the high end ones which many are couples only, no kids, like Secrets Maroma Beach, Excellence Riveria Cancun, Biras Creek, etc. the food is like eating at 5 star Dallas and Houston restaurants every night. No buffets at places like this.
This made me laugh, mainly cause I have been to two of those resorts and felt like they were good at best. Better than most AI's for sure, but by no means 5 star quality.

bwahaha, no it's really, really not. i'm guessing you've not been to very many 5 star restaurants in Houston or Dallas.

now, what you recommended is what i would call good/great for an AI.

I'm a foodie and have been to many of the finest restaurants in the US. Even the best AIs don't come close to comparing. I do disagree with those that say the food is eatable at best, and AIs can have very good food, but it's not going to be world class. A great chef doesn't want to cook at a an All Inclusive resort. But anyone that says you can't have good food at an AI is just being a snob.

I second this. I could not expect anything better. Very expensive though.

Whatever you do, stay of out of Dominican Republic if you want decent food. Great beaches and pools, but every resort seems to have terrible food. I believe it's an infrastructure issue.

We just returned from Excellence Riviera Cancun and I don't think the food was 5* like the user above claims it to be. They tried way too hard to be different. While the resort was beautiful, thought the food was meh and was ready to return home for a decent meal.

This reminds me of those people that claim it takes them 35 minutes to get from The Woodlands to Downtown for their daily commute.

Yes I have been to many 5 star restaurants and the food is comparable at Secrets Maroma and Biras Creek. Remove the all inclusive label and add $45 menu prices for entrees and all the food snobs would be clamoring for it.

Lol. This guy can't be serious.

I was pretty disappointed in the food. Most was fine, but nothing I'd return to if it was a local restaurant.

I understand why people like all inclusive resorts, but having lived in the Caribbean it's usually a bad deal for the locals. Yes, some get work there, but all the $$$ are spent with the resort and not usually invested in the local economy.

I also think that it discourages people to head off and explore other parts of the island they are on. Find a great hotel, rent a car, use taxis and go off site and eat at different restaurants away from the resort. You will probably have a richer experience for it, hopefully get to hang out with some locals, find some hidden gems, and put back more into the local economy.

Just my two cents worth.

It definitely is a infrastructure issue. When we stayed at The Excellence Punta Cana it took us an hour to get there and since the main road (if you can call it that) was down we literally drove an hour down a dirt bumpy road through a rain forest to get there. How they manage to get water and food there is a miracle.

Supposedly, The Excellence is above average by Dominican standards and while I found it good I'm def not writing home about it. (Beautiful resort and probably the best customer service I have ever received in any form in my life. Such a great place. Average food though)

Since then we stayed at Aruba and Turks and Caicos and the food was SO good there.... Not all inclusive but I don't think there is too many all inclusives at those two. Too many good restaurants.

This year were back at Punta Cana to save some money so we will see how the all inclusives go this round. Were staying at The Royal Suites Turquesa (sp) and I'm curious to see if the the food is the same as the Excellence. I'm betting most of the resorts at Punta Cana are serving the same food.
