Heading to Memphis for a weekend. Any must eats/ must see for there?

Also, does anyone have suggestions on anything romantic or "couple-ish" to do? Looking to do 1 date type thing and the rest of the time touring/boozing
rather be fishing

Germantown commissary and corkys were our favorite during our liberty bowl trip.

Do you absolutely have to stay downtown? Hotel recommendations? Wife and I are looking at roadtripping from DFW to Nashville in May and want to spend a night in Memphis.

Stay at the Peabody. It is walking distance to Rendesvouz (across the street), Beale, Peabody Place, etc. For one night, that's plenty to do.

Central BBQ is worth a trip once you've tried the touristy Rendezvous.

I'm kind of a music geek, so I really enjoyed Memphis. If you like music, Sun Studio is a must. We also did Graceland, which was good, but I liked Sun better. Gibson Guitar factory tour is another, but you have to call ahead and make reservations before you go. Also, the Lorraine Motel where MLK was shot.

Central BBQ is good, Gus' Chicken is my favorite. We also went to Arcade Diner for breakfast once. Really cool place. Has remained pretty much untouched from the days of segregation. Neat and eerie at the same time. Whites side is bright and colorful like a typical 50's diner. Blacks side is dark, few windows, little sunlight.
