My wife and I are looking for a nice all inclusive the week before Christmas. We've never done a beach destination, so everything is on the table. We've had some friends suggest Excellence Playa Maya and Secrets Riviera Maya.

I'm not adverse to Mexico, but also not my first choice. Can anyone suggest alternate places, or give me your opinion of the two resorts above?

What's your budget? Where are you flying from? How far do you want to travel?

Traveling from DFW, Looking at 4-5 days (Dec 16-19/20), so would like to keep it relatively close (4-5 hour flight). Budget is loose, but I would assume $2.5k with air.

Wife and I went to Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay, Jamaica in August and had a great time. Our room was approximately 10 feet from the beach by our building. Super relaxing and the food and service were excellent. Take a look at it and Sandals Montego Bay on TripAdvisor. We flew directly from IAH in Houston to Montego Bay and it was a 3 hour flight.

I was going to say there are only 2 AIs in Turks, Beaches (which is all kids) and Club Med. Not an AI destination.

T&C trip we did was during the off season and there were really no kids at any of the resorts nearby.

Secrets Maroma Beach was incredible. We just went in July. I wasn't excited about Mexico, but we will be going back sooner than later.

We did that exact trip for 2500 to royal hideaway playacar. Been there 3 years in a row, awesome place.

Any of the Couples resorts in Jamaica. There is a direct flight to Montego Bay from DFW, smaller & more intimate than Sandals. We have been to 3 of the 4 resorts and enjoyed them all. Dominican Republic is probably your only other choice in the Carribbean other than Mexico in your price range.

For that time of year and price range, I don't think you have much of a choice except Mexico....
Also, most of the Caribbean from DFW will go through Miami. So 4-5 hours travel time doesn't really work.
Flights will be $600-700pp b/c American is a monopolizing ripoff from DFW.

Agreed on American.

Is that a popular time to go? We assumed the week before Christmas wouldn't as bad as the week between Christmas and the New Year.

I'll have to disagree to an extent on this if you're talking about mexico. I've flown American and sun country at least 3 times in the past 5 years and paid less than 400 pp each time. All ns flights. Timing may have been a factor but I never felt like i overpaid for the flight itself.

We use a travel agent with resortvacationstogo.com - have used him 4 times now - honeymoon to Excellence Punta Cana, and three times to Royal Hideaway Playacar - and everytime I price it out myself and he is cheaper. Last 3 to Playacar were all at $2500, and could have been cheaper but we wanted to do American Airlines. Can use the website to price it all out if you want without contacting anybody.

I've stayed at three adults only all inclusive resorts and I would rank them:

1. Secrets Maroma - Mexico
2. Couples Tower Isle - Jamaica
3. Excellence - Punta Cana

We had our honeymoon at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso and have recommended it to others. Our first choice wasn't Mexico either, but it was hard to beat in terms of bang for the buck and ease of travel. Really not your typical Mexico AI. Great food, top shelf liquor, beautiful rooms, etc. Would go there again in a heart beat.

I'd have to look because it's been 5 years, but we did a honeymoon villa for 5 or 6 nights, and I want to say it was around $4800 or so. Honeymoon villa was awesome but frankly an ocean front room would have been fine. It really was incredible.

Look up Grand Velas. Not couples only but they have adults only pools. Top shelf liquor, all suites hotel. It's the only all inclusive we've been to so I can't compare to the others mentioned but the food and service were much better than the cruises we've been on.

I know his budget is $2500. Ours was more because it was in a honeymoon villa and for 5 or 6 nights. You do an ocean front or ocean view room for a long weekend like the op said, and I'm sure you could be there or close to it.
